Personally I think people are blowing the Els quote up a bit more than it should be. By nature Coaches are taught to be more tight lipped to the media when it comes to recruiting so they talk around issues and use vague terms. In a previous interview Els had stated that they didn't send anyone to Florida the first BYE week because they were going to hit it hard the second BYE week which I think will come to fruition.
The other thing about his quote is that sometimes you have the plan and you get down to deciding between two different trips, "Coach Brown... should we send you to Arizona or Cal? We don't have time for both. You know the relationship you have with the recruits in both those areas which would need it most? It's up to you." So then that assistent coach has to think about which one would be more beneficial. It's not a cluster-*&%$, and it's not really disorganized, but it can seem that way on the outside looking in.
The problem for me is actually that Pelini will not be on the road this time. I take issue with that. As a HC during a BYE you should always be on the road, especially to your top targets. I take issue with that more than I do with Els' "I don't know" comment.
