I have to get to work, but I wanted to ask how and what these back office things mean. I read on the rules and information links that you collect them, but I have no idea on how you obtain them or reward them.

Questions are as follows:

1. How many reps (green symbols does it take to get a rep power?)
2. Up in the corner it shows points, what are they and how many points does one need to get... whatever goes along with those points?)
3. How do you reward or give a rep to others?

That's it for now... See ya all later, got to run... I have 40 minutes to get 1 hour worth of errands done and get to work. LOL

Go Big Red!

1. No Idea
2. They are rep points- it takes x amount to get one rep power.
3. Click on the icon in between the green "on-line" or Red "off-line"(status) icon and the icon that has a red and yellow card(infraction)- It's white not really sure what it's supposed to be. CLick this icon on the post that you wish to give rep to... It will pop up a dialog box, where you click either postive or neg rep- then has a little white box where you can sign your name to, if you wish...

Rep power really doesn't mean anything, you don't get any special treatment, no free gifts, no free food........nothing like that- it's more of a check/balance system... it bascically only serves as a warning to others... Postive rep is usually more a reflection of post count- the more you post the more rep you will recieve........ How ever, if someone has a high post count and low rep compared to others with the same post count- it serves as a warning that that poster is probably a troll.......

You're automatically awarded one green rep power symbol in increments of 1000 posts. You also get one green rep symbol for every 100 positive rep pts you accumulate. The number of rep pts increased in your total is based upon the strength of the individual awarding you the rep.
ie..a poster with rep power of 10 will give you more rep pts per 'approved' than a poster with a rep power of 3.
You award pos/neg rep with the white 'checks and balance' symbol.

IMO..Rep pts don't really mean anything about the quality of the poster if you've been here a while and are familiar with said poster. For example.. you're new so you don't have a lot of rep, but the quality of your posts have been good..To another noob that could be a bit deceiving.
This is a community of different personalities, so one could be being repped for their sarcasm, humor, opinion, or they may just post quality info..Thus me stating rep power doesn't really tell you much.

However,

OV (fred melmackian) actually had two red squares (neg rep) as his rep power. But all he did was pretty much attack people here for their opinions and ironically accuse multiple posters of being just another alias of shady. It's as if his primary purpose was to disrupt. Hence the community graded him as such and likely was the factor in ghost (the forum's owner) banning him..

Hope that helps..

I believe a grey square means the individual is new, so they haven't earned the ability to sway your total rep points neg or pos.

I know it means absolutely nothing, but reps are fun to give and get.

I heard a rumor that whoever gets the most rep during the month of September will be awarded with an ice cream sandwich.........don't know if that's true or not, but it's motivation

Nope.

If that were the case, I'd have 37 rep points.

Just sayin...

You're right..Maybe the 100 was just a temporary promotion.

I still think you get some pts..

This I don't know.. There is a limit..

I believe you can give rep 5x over a 24 hour period.

...and Big Red......it doesn't mean shit to have a lot of rep. The only thing it does is give you a bigger target for assholes who like to neg rep people because.......well, they're assholes.
