Another thought: when you look at the "crap" divisions, there will be some VERY unworthy teams in the playoffs. The Super-Atlantic conference will likely field 5 candidates a year, but one won't cut it. Meanwhile, in the newly dubbed Lame Conference, Detroit/Chicago are locks for a very very very long time, while two of St. Louis/Dallas/CBJ/NSH/WPG/MIN will make it. Now...that won't be the case every year, but, it's certainly different. There's gonna be some angry fans with this the first post-season it's used.

To be clear, teams only travel outside their conference once. That means Chi, Det etc. only go to Van, LA, SJ, Ana once, not twice.

No, it's a home-home with every non-conference team. You'll see every NHL team in your home barn every season. Since we're in a 7 team conference we will play each conference team 6 times a year. Those in 8 team conferences will rotate between 5 and 6 games a year with each conference rival.
