First two rounds of playoffs are strictly within conference -- 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3, winners face each other. Just like old Divisional format.
Four conference winners are seeded on total points, 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3, so an all-East or all-West final is possible.

I'm fine with this...Wild fans don't really care about the Oilers, Flames, Canucks, & Avs. We don't like them, but we won't miss them. We'd much rather play the Stars & Red Wings. For some reason when we play the Blues & Blue Jackets the games are always pretty scrappy too.

Yeah...yeah, that's gonna be a spring-ly event pretty much. Basically when you look at our "conference" (I can't get over that), you see the entire motivation for the NHL to do this. This guarantees a matchup of Philly/Pitt/Wash/NYR EVERY YEAR. In some way shape or form that will likely happen...until Carolina, NYI, NJD catch up again. That's HUGE money for them.

Oh, in that case don't expect to play Chicago every year, and even if you finish #2 in the nation (yeah, we're doing rankings in the NHL now) you're not playing in the Cup Finals against them.
