Mayock said Ray had the worst numbers compared to the other 3 OLB's in the draft. My opinion is that he is a huge risk as is Gregory. If Mariota goes #2 then we should get Fowler at #5. If Mariota falls and JAX takes Fowler and we stay at #5, I say the pick is Beasley.

This is for Shark:

NFL Media ranks Iowa OL Brandon Scherff as the draft's safest offensive lineman.

NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock projects Scherff as a starting guard as a rookie. We think the 6-foot-5, 320-pound Scherff can excel at the left tackle position in the NFL. "Regardless of which position he plays, he is as ready to make a rookie impact as any offensive lineman in the draft," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Chase Goodbread. "Scherff's work ethic and athleticism are near-legendary at Iowa." The Hawkeyes prospect is the reigning Outland Trophy winner, given to college football's top interior lineman.

If this is true that he is an NFL OT then that changes things. I thought scouts and evaluators were down on this guy? Or is this draft hype? Does this change everything?

That's quite surprising given a lot of other draft "pundits" who don't think he can play tackle because he isn't quick enough to hold off speed rushers. If this assessment is correct and he falls to us at #5, that's a no-brainer. But this is based on a huge IF --> can he play tackle at a superior level given the pick we're using on him?

Going into the Combine he was mocked to us in about 60% of the mocks out there. Kid pulled a hammy running the 40 ( a pointless excersize for O-lineman if you ask me), and his draft stock dipped a little because his 3 cone and shuttle drills were canceled. I have said for a while now the best O-lineman in this draft are Scherff and Peat. And the only reason NONE of them are rated in the top five is because Tampa needs a QB, and none of the other top five teams are in need of a LT at the moment. Mocks take into account team needs then start naming guys the BPA. Because I dont think a single person here thinks Jamies Winston is the best player in the entire 2015 draft.

You can make the argument that the Raiders need a OT. OT always gets overhyped in the draft process but somehow Scherff did not. Look at the guy KC took at #1. Is he even a LT yet? Major questions were brought up that is why his draft Scherff stock slipped. Is he as talented as Jake Matthews or Greg Robinson? The so called experts don't think so. But who really knows. Its going to be interesting to see what Scot does. If Scherff is taken then who do you cut? Moses or Compton? No team carries four OT's on their roster.

Actually you cut Chester, make Moses a swing guard as he has power, but two left feet and is not good in space at this level. Compton stays on as the swing tackle.

We carry Trent, Scherff and Compton at Tackle

Moses, Long, Lavaou and our other draft pick at Guard

Litch makes center and one of the previous seven I listed has got to get coached up as backup center.

That leaves ONE open OL slot as i think we carry nine total.

Any questions??? LOL

Key word: pre-combine. I saw all those mocks and things have changed now. Most of the mocks have us taking Dante Fowler or the other two OLBs.

im warming up to the thought of taking scherff at 5. i think hes a guard. but if he can be a pro bowl guard for us then who cares if we took a guard at 5, its a great pick.

I think that has more to do with us no resigning Rak than any realistic look at the team and where we stand as far as the roster at the moment. That and the time honored idea that you dont draft anything but a LT in the top five as far as the o-line goes.

Monday should be interesting as Iowa has their pro day then. Scherff will either rise, fall or stay put in the 8-12 range. Would it not be ironic if people started talking about teams possibly trying to trade UP to take him after monday. :hat:

Fowler stock has to be the highest right now. If he is there we will probably take him.

I don't know about that. Those mocks also have those guys going to others in the top five or six. Most of the mocks are based on BPA and thus might not be the best at predicting where folks will go.

As long as whomever they pick at 5 is an impact starter I could care less What position it is.

dude... any mock that has Jamies Winston as the best player in this entire draft has no credibility as far as saying its based on best player available. And considering that every one on the planet who has bothered to make a mock thinks Winston goes #1 over all, we are NOT basing on best player available so much as team need and what would look hot on draft day.

I never said that the mocks were a BPA big board. I said that they were "based on" BPAs. A few weeks ago, Leonard Williams was supposedly numero uno. Still might be. But he may fall as far as third -- or maybe fourth. That's because other considerations factor in draft selections. And we're not even talking about trades. That could be a huge game changer.

Probably stay put unless he can convince he's got the talent to take on NFL speed rushers. If he does (at the pro-day or later), he will be pushed into the top five. At that point, he will be worth our #5 overall. But that's a big IF. And that's assuming we don't trade down.

You also have to factor in his versatility when determining worth. He has played Guard and LT at the college level. If nothing else, he comes in as starting right guard and gives us another swing tackle in a pinch.
