The hits (no pun intended) just keep on coming.

This season just keeps getting worse, probably one of the most forgettable :L

Time to cut our loses with McDonald. He's never going to learn to stay out of trouble. Also any notice we been in trouble with the law a lot under Harbaugh watch.

I like Ray McDonald as a player, but this theme with violence against women is overshadowing that. I think we need to cut him loose.

On the plus side D line is the one area where we have some depth with Carradine, Dial, Williams, Dorsey, and TJE. Plus J. Smith if he comes back.

This guy just can't keep himself clean & away from trouble. If the pending details even give the slightest hint of there being some smoke here, the Niners should put him on the NFI list immediately.

He was cut. Our front office is such a joke. When we had a shot at the playoffs they keep him in citing due process. And now that we are out of it, it's a "pattern." He hasn't even been arrested yet.

For the record, I think he should be cut, but everything has been handled so horribly but the FO.

This would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Being out of the playoffs is probably a consideration, but I seriously doubt it's the main one. Ray McDonald had been one of the "good" guys on the team and we saw from Kap's situation this past off season that sometimes these claims etc are really BS. The first time something like this happens to a player you investigate and talk to the player and if everything seems on the up and up you should stand by them.

With McDonald though it's the second claim of violence against women and I don't doubt the team talked to McDonald. At the very least they would have found out if McDonald knew the woman and if he had sex with her. if he answered yes to both questions even if he claims she consented, then you cut him loose because at the least he cheated on his fiancee' and it's more drama after they told him to stay clean.

I honestly don't see how the front office should have acted any differently especially with the League looking so hard at these things now.

The 49ers hadn't even played a regular season game yet when they stood behind him and look at what happened there were no charges filed. The FO handled that case admirably!!! They investigated what happened and believed in him and other players that were there and the truth came out that he was assaulted by the fiancé and was simply trying to escort her out.

Now with this case the FO is handling it admirably again. Since he put himself into a situation that has him under investigation again and this time it seems to be he said against she said with possible physical and DNA evidence the 49ers are cutting ties!!!

:agree: The original call on this latest episode was from the hospital as a possible r*pe. I see no reason why anyone would think that this latest charge had anything to do with the other. Ray has now been accused of r*pe ,a bit different than an arguement with the wife at a party.

I disagree 100%.

As stated, the prior incident, while maybe true (I am not saying it was true, just there is a possibility), was flimsy enough that the police never filed charges. The team did the right thing by not bowing to ignorant public pressure.

This situation stinks worse. The police are taking active steps in the investigation. That never happened in the last incident. Also, this is establishing a pattern that did not exist before. The Niners ate a PR shit-sandwich, and probably told him that if he is not nominated for sainthood, he will be cut. Well, today he was cut.

Assume, for arguments sake, that he is innocent of these latest charges. The Niners still made the right move to cut ties at this point because he continues to put himself into situations that allow for these allegations to arise. Dude just makes bad decisions in life.

I obviously am not happy that somebody was hurt allegedly by him.

But when I first heard that he was released due to his incident, I immediately feared that it was in reference to the previous incident (sort of like how Ray Rice incident changed). It appeared that we looked away until the playoffs chances were gone and then we took a stand when we couldn't make the playoffs. It seemed two sided.

But now reading that there was a new incident, that clearly shows that it wasn't the case that we were just okay with him as long as we were benefiting from him. Again, that makes me feel better about the organization than the alternative but not better that another woman was hurt. In the real world, it would be better for an organization to be two-faced and only one victim than having two victims.

This part obviously sux:

McDonald was signed with the 49ers through the 2017 season. In 2015, McDonald will still count $4.6 million against the salary cap from the remaining prorated portion of his bonus money. But the move saves the 49ers $1.875 million on the salary cap, as well as he had a cap figure of $6.475 million, including a scheduled salary of $4.2 million.
