He's actually injured I think and not playing, but Dallas was desperate earlier for depth and brought him on. I think the cynics are right here: most teams will do anything to win. If the Niners were still in contention, they probably make up a lame excuse as to why Ray McDonald deserves to keep playing. Since they're not in contention, they can just unceremoniously cut his ass. Still, I feel no pity for the guy. He did this to himself, even if he proves innocent of these allegations.
Teams should do better background checks regarding personnel.

Anyway you look at it, the Niners come off looking bad after cutting him.

I don't disagree with cutting him, but the Niners look like hypocrites.

Nope. Apparently, the organization stood behind McDonald after the initial charges but made him aware of the consequences if a pattern were to arise....which is where they are at now.

The 49ers just cut a good football player, but apparently a pure scumbag....I applaud that decision.

Give me a break. They cut him because they are out of contention. The Cardinals cut Dwyer early in the year from the same allegations. They did the right thing. The whole "due process" is a pile of crap. The niner front office and coaching staff is a joke.

Its not hypocritical, the 49ers investigated the domestic issue back in august, which was observed by many people at a party, which I saw earlier today was th fiancé assaulting ray mac and him stopping her and escorting her out. So they stood behind him because he didn't do anything wrong in that situation.

Now you put his DUI and the investigation together with a new accusation of r*pe and they 49ers are cutting ties with someone who is forming a serious pattern. plane and simple.

Just like I would bet they 49ers will do if aldon smith gets into trouble again. Kid had an alcohol problem and made poor decisions, they stood behind him and he got treatment and hasn't been in trouble since. (hopefully he stays that way)

that is what a good organization should do! They invest money into these players they should seek to help them and if they don't accept the help or continue their bad behavior then cut ties!!!

Are you suggesting they should have kept these guys on their roster?

lol @ the comparison, Dwyer was a scrub back up RB ...something tells me if Patrick Petterson was acused of something the AZ front office would have let due process play out.

Complete rubbish. When the team was fighting for a playoff spot we got all that "due process" nonsense coming from Harbaugh & the front office. Now that they are out of playoff contention & a player is suspected of crime, immediately, that same "due process" goes right out the window. :L

The Cardinals cutting Dwyer does not mean the Niners simply cut McDonald simply because they are out of contention. I get why people want to connect those dots....specifically Cardinal, Ram and especially Seahawk fans, but whatever.

Doubtful considering Arians' stance on this subject & his ties with womens groups. PP would likely immediately go on the NFI list like Dwyer & then the process would play out. That's just how Arians & Keim roll.

HAHAHAHA the 49ers in playoff contention with a 0-0 record. you act like they didn't cut him just 2 weeks ago when they still had hopes of making the playoffs. they stood behind him before the fucking season started.

There is huge difference in Dwyer and Macdonald. Dwyer hit his wife and she pressed charges, Macdonald was hit by his wife and he called the police who did an investigation and found he didn't assault her.

"Tuesday's sexual-assault allegation marks another serious run-in with the law for McDonald, who had just been investigated for a Aug. 31 fight with his pregnant fiancée at his home. The District Attorney's Office announced last month it would not file any charges, citing insufficient evidence, and said it appeared the fiancée initiated the physical contact that led to his initial arrest."

Ray McDonald released by 49ers after sexual-assault claim - San Jose Mercury News

quote from this article stating that the fiancé initiated contact. where as dwyer hit his wife. why is that hard for you Tard fans to understand????

Not unexpected.

The terrible off season we had + not making the playoffs = releasing at least some of the players that had off-field issues.

The man is a dirt bag. I  at them just cutting his thug ass

These are football players. Modern gladiators and such.

I love all the moral outrage over football players being less than stand up human beings looking to take in stray cats and visit sick kids.

Warriors aren't always beautiful people on the inside.

Really, no one should shed a tear for the dude, but I do think we have swung the pendulum way too far in what we expect out of guys that suit up armor and try to knock the fuck out of other guys suited up.

At some point we need to accept them for what they are and go back to having football be football again with all the good, bad, and ugly that came with it.

49ers waived LE Ray McDonald.
It's been a long time coming for McDonald. Wednesday's announcement that McDonald is a suspect in an alleged r*pe from last week that took place at his home was the final straw for the 49ers. It also helps that they're out of the playoff race. McDonald has had a number of off-field red flags, ranging from DUI, all-night partying, felony domestic violence arrest in August, and now this. The 49ers will eat over $4.6 million in dead money against the 2015 salary cap by releasing him.

Ray just need counseling from Big Ben:suds:

That time has sadly passed my friend.

And all I was doing was applauding their decision to cut him. Maybe he will learn a lesson by this move.

It sounds to me like they are just sick of the guy constantly being on the crime blotter, even if the accusations fizzle. He puts himself in some bad situations. He needs better company, and more to the point, the team probably realized HE was bad company for the other, more valuable players.

More likely that now that they know they ain't making the playoffs, they are vying for character in the FO....
Too little too late, too obvious.....
Our FO, stepped in it with Ray Rice, so I recognize it well.....

Dwyer was slotted as our number 2 RB. Considering Ellington is out and was playing injured early in the year, the loss of Dwyer was huge. We could have really used him this year. The two are very compatible. The niners did the wrong thing and now they look like idiots.
