how often do you see the #1 team in the nation win by 18 and drop in the polls?

Not sure how FSU dropped. That's bullshit if you ask me.

This is why preseason rankings are useless.

Mississippi State has looked like the better team. The big difference is FSU started the year ranked number 1, Miss State started the season unranked.

How about they ranked the teams based on performance this season, not last season and not based on where they start the year ranked?

Not that it matters. Mississippi State and Florida State both control their own destiny to the playoffs, as does any other undefeated power 5 team(or independent)

rankings mean crap now. Its all about the playoffs. If u go 12-0 u will be in the playoffs. My thing is if Miss St or Ole Miss lose I don't want to see them ahead of Bama. Bama has not looked good this year.

All true, but I can't remember the last time, if ever, a number one team, who is the reigning national champ, has an 18 point conference road win and drops in the polls. Historically, if the reigning champ is ranked no. 1, they usually hold on to that spot until they're beat.

I get what you are saying, and you're not wrong. I'm just a fan of ranking the best teams based on what we've seen during the current season and rankings not coming out until after week 5 or 6.

Fine, this can be done, as soon as they stop saying Miss. St. has beaten 3 top 10 teams. Texas A&M and LSU have not looked like top 10 teams this year (beating up other overrated schools and FCS schools is not impressive).
