yeah a number are road games, where they are not totally unexpected. And this is CBB, so the losses for most of these teams is really not that important, in that they are already in the tournament, worst can happen may be seeding.

But still, sure seems like a bunch in two/three days.

Yeah it is definitely a lot.

I just know Kstate, Oklahoma and VCU were no shocks. I even picked those teams in pick ems.

Big 12 especially since all the top teams are so talented home court really makes the difference.

The top 25 rankings will barely change.

Yeah, poor Kansas- they were listed as a no.1 seed after Syracuse lost, then a few hours later, boom. They themselves were knocked off.

As someone above mentioned, after it is all over, probably not many changes.

Pretty nutty list.

UK players are just so selfish it's unfortunate. Not much of a team mentality, I still think they make a run in the dance if they play cohesively. Texas has had some trouble on the road recently but its a young team so you expect as much. Idk what has happened to Iowa recently.

I made this point in another thread. While UC has lost 2 in a row, losing to Louisville or UConn isn't terrible, but should have been avoidable...anyway, I digress...

UK doesn't play as a team. You can have a collection of the best talent in the game, but if they don't play together, it won't matter. UC has 1/2 the talent, and has had a much better season simply because they play as a team, they play hard, and they all are on the same page.

They also have Senior leadership. Something UK will rarely ever have because their top 3-4-5 players will never be around longer than 2 years. One of the reasons that team won it all a few years ago was because they had a few Jr's and Seniors to help set examples, lead on the floor, and keep things together. The UK team last year, and this year, have no such leadership. Cal would be wise to start finding a few 3-4 star guys that will stay 3-4 years to help off-set losing top talent each year. Yeah, he won't win the recruiting wars, but his teams will be better for it.

Here's the problem with that idea. If you are a 3-4 star player, this is the pitch you get from Coach Cal:

"If you come in here and compete there is a CHANCE you might start getting 10 minutes a game your junior year. By the time you are a senior, you might get 15! Come play for me and be a 4 year guy who never gets a real shot at playing time, just backup minutes. It will be fun!"

I got to see the Texas@OU game and OU was favored. I bet on the home team. The Longhorns threw the game away with poor passing and the Sooners jumped on them. At one point OU had 16 TO points, Texas had less than 5, I think it was early in the 2nd half. Then it got worst.

Not saying it's an easy sell, but it's clear that a mixture of talent, experience, and leadership is needed.

The first three teams at Kentucky all had veteran players recruited by previous coaches in key roles? Those teams went a combined 102-14, 40-18 in the Southeastern Conference, with two SEC titles, two SEC tournament titles, two Final Four appearances and a national title.

Since those veteran players have left, the two Kentucky teams relying solely on recruits as the major contributors are last year and this year? And that their record is 42-20, 23-11 in the SEC, with an NIT berth and four losses to teams ranked outside the Ken Pomeroy top 100?
(credit to Pat Forde for stats)

If Cal is the almighty recruiter he claims to be, then he should be able to convince a few of those kids to either stay, or find some less heralded recruits that can see the bigger picture knowing they will get their time down the road as the develop. It's clear, though, the current direction Cal is using isn't working, and with such turnover in roster each year, it's not going to get much better.
