CLEVELAND — Rangers manager Ron Washington said Sunday he expects that Shin-Soo Choo’s time will be split more evenly between outfield and DH for the remainder of the season.

The reasons are two-fold: To give Choo more time off the sore ankle that has bothered him since late April and to give the Rangers more chance to look at Jim Adduci in the outfield as a potential 2015 option.

“I want to see Adduci,” Washington said. “I haven’t really seen him. I’ll give Adduci some time at DH, too.”

RW on Odor: While Odor is getting acclimated to major league baseball, Washington doesn’t want to burden him with the notion of being more disciplined because, with young players they often interpret it as “taking pitches,” which leads to passiveness.

“It’s going to take some time to calm that down,” Washington said.

DMN regarding Robbie Ross......It was the fourth consecutive quality start for Ross, who has allowed seven earned runs in his last 28 innings (2.25 ERA) at Round Rock. He has struck out 18 while allowing just three walks in the span. He has not allowed a walk in his last two starts and has not allowed a homer in three.

Paul Swan from ESPN Insider says:

Texas Rangers | Projected finish: 67-95

And the only team that has been worse than the Rockies since June 1 ... the Rangers, who have gone 15-40 over that time span. They elected not to have the fire sale we advocated for prior to the trade deadline, but they still may finish with the worst record in the game anyway. They really have not done anything well all season, whether it's hitting, fielding, starting pitching or relief pitching.

Their prime asset in the bullpen, Joakim Soria, was the one player the Rangers did trade. At this point in the season, the team has a mere two above-average players in Adrian Beltre and Yu Darvish. They should get Derek Holland back in time for the stretch run, which should help, but not as much as a possible August trade of Alex Rios will hurt. Rios has been the team's second-best hitter, and though he's a long way off from Beltre, they are the only two hitters on the team with a 100 wRC+ or better.

The Rangers and Rockies have been in a race to the bottom for two months, while the Phillies, Diamondbacks and Astros seem to be itching to join them. The Rangers are pegged as the lowest of the low, though, and that seems likely to stick. While the Rockies have joined them in the free fall, they do have some promising pitching prospects in Eddie Butler and Jon Gray set to make an impact in the second half. The Rangers don't have promising prospects like that ready to take the ball. The Rangers also don't have a Tulowitzki waiting in the wings. If the game's best shortstop returns on schedule, he should be able to do enough to keep the Rockies from earning the franchise's first No. 1 pick.

Personally....I don't know what to make of this. I'm a firm believer that Frasor brought back a terrific return in Patton.

Some of our promising prospects are already taking the ball. Some two years ahead of schedule. And at times they don't look too bad.

terpsfball - Now is the time where you start thinking of creative ways to get a starting OF and a pitcher/prospect. Rios isnt gonna be on this team in september.

Any ideas Terp?

none haha. simply because we dont really have anything that great to offer... we'd have to offer profar/odor/Sardinas to get any decent starter whatsoever and I dont think we're willing to do that.

The OF needs to be examined closely. If Rios goes, that leaves Martin and Choo both suspect at this point. Choice may not pan out but that has to be decided so I agree with Terps on creating a starting OF.

I mean if I were us, I'd be getting Gallo as many right field innings as I could, but that's just me.

Except he isnt ML ready though.....

So you'd rather have him burn out in RF than develop in the minors?
Or are you suggesting RF in the minors?

Of course he's not ML ready. You put in in RF in frisco. But you start working him out there so you can prepare the inevitable profar switch to third in 2 or 3 years when beltre is done. Then when Gallo is ready the transition isnt completely foreign.

I think we should be looking into acquiring Rusney Castillo. . I would go after Melky Cabrera as a FA too.

Also, I said it last off-season and I'll say it again. I wouldn't be surprised if Kemp is an eventual Ranger. I don't mean trying to do all of these things, but if EA could get Kemp I would do it. Maybe even throw in a prospect. Hanley Ramirez is a FA. I have a feeling either him or Tulo will be the next Yankee SS.

Carp will be on the active roster tonight. Gim is on paternity leave. I hope he enjoys his time away and the birth of his child. I would probably want to get away from the team too.

So what are you suggesting for Profar over the next 2/3 years? # 1 prospect to role player, again, in 2015? Can't see this at all.

I wouldn't give ya a dozen Nolan Ryan hot dogs for Hanley.

I wouldn't trade EA straight up for Kemp. ESPECIALLY throwing in a prospect too. Insane.

What? haha I would do either in a heart beat. We cant pay someone to take EA right now...literally. If they wanna give us Matt Kemp then holy shit that's a win.

I disagree. EA will at least be on the field. Kemp you cannot promise that.

I'm still thinking the Rangers may look at Profar as a backup at SS/3rd for next season - maybe some 2nd too, dependent upon what happens with Odor for the rest of this year.

If they do this, then maybe the long term thinking is for AB to be a part-time (perhaps full) 3rd baseman in 2016, part-time 1st baseman, and a few ABs at DH.

Why is everyone so sure Gallo isn't going to get a good look at 3rd in the bigs? Seems the Rangers are so sold on this thought process.
