He's been pretty lights out since he got a few extra days off when his quad was acting up, I think the quad was legitimately hurt but it could've have only helped with general fatigue as well

Extra nice thing about Darvish is he actually better at home than on the road

I forgot about the quad. It was nice that he could get this Seattle monkey off his back. Hard to believe the Mariners roughed him up in 3 starts against them

I pray we don't take kirkman into October. We'll have Ross and Koji is great against lefties too.

12 or 11 pitchers in the post season ...

4SP: Harrison, Dempster, Darvish, Holland
7/8RP: Nathan, Adams, Uehara, Ogando, Ross, Feldman, plus one for 7 RPs and two for 8RPs.

So you don't want TEX to take Kirkman to go to the post season ... so which one or two of these four would you take?

Seems it might have been an Ichiro monkey. Could be interesting if we face the Yankees in October. All the more reason I do t want them in the mix.

and?

You said: "I pray we don't take kirkman into October"

Recognizing that Scheppers would have to be an injury replacement to qualify for post season ... if Scheppers is one ... who is the last RP? Do you go to the post season with only one LHP on your RP staff?

Scheppers wouldn't have to be an injury replacement. He's been with the club multiple times throughout the year. And frankly I'd rather use that last spot for a bench bat. I'm not worried about only having one lhp because Uehara is very effective against lefties.

Scheppers was not on the active roster on 31Aug. He is only post season eligible as an injury replacement.

Adding another bat to the roster is equally difficult finding guys who are post season eligible.

My understanding is he doesn't have to be on the roster August 31. My understanding is he had to be on the active roster before Aug 31.

Has to be active 31Aug midnight, Can't find a direct link to MLB rules ... just lots of unofficial citations. Here's the best (unfortunately) from Wikipedia:

To be eligible for a team’s playoff roster a player must be on any of the following: (a) the 25 man active roster, (b) the disabled list, (c) the bereavement list, or (d) the suspended list as of August 31 at midnight[citation needed]. The only exception is that a player on the 60-day disabled list may be replaced by another player from the team's 40-man roster (as of August 31) who plays the same position (i.e. position player for position player, or pitcher for pitcher), with the approval of the commissioner of baseball.

Joey Matches corrected me on a post over at BBTIA last week that the position player for position player and pitcher for pitcher rule is no longer current. I think he is right but I can't find a direct citation of MLB Rule 40(a).

You can add a player from your organization to replace an injured player ... you just have to add them to the 40man. For example ... if Mike Olt is deemed injured ... then TEX could acquire the contract of Mike Bianucci then dfa someone off the 40man (or replace someone who is on the 60day DL) then activate Bianucci. Since Olt was playoff eligible his injury replacement is eligible.

So back to Tanner Scheppers ... he wasn't on the active roster on 31Augmidnight ... so isn't eligible directly. Has to be an injury replacement. Logical candidate to be replaced is Oswalt who was eligible.

On a night when we really need Feldman go to deep in the game he's trying to make the perfect pitch and is up over 25 pitches and gives up the lead in the first inning. :L Feldman sucks.

Well, its forfeit night at the ballpark. Even if our offense shows up, Feldman will put this thing out of reach by the 4th. He is abysmal and Texas is just wasting everyone's time starting him. M Perez would have been a much better option.

Wash is basically telling the A's to come and get it tonight. Its gonna bite him.

Yup. No reason not to give Perez a start tonight instead.

Feldman is tough to watch. We can hope with a weak hitting Mariner line-up he could pitch 7in wth allowing only 2 or 3 runs.
Seriously we need to sweep this series before going into LA next week

So Murph is 0-12 lifetime against Vargas. Think tonite would have been a good move to start Gentry in CF and Josh in left

Hate watching Feldman. Even against medoicre teams are chances of winning are less than 50-50
