I love Gentry, I would rather carry him over Treanor if we make the playoffs, his bat is weak but the guy has wheels and is great defensively

Nice thought but not likely ... he's going to end up behind Beckham, Pedroia, and Cano.

Odds are Pedroia gets it although would not be surprised to see Cano get it again. I think the rule is that to win the GG you have to have won it before.

If you read jta's post ... note that I erred by citing the media as the voting body for GG. I was wrong ... managers and coaches are the electorate so I edited what I originally posted due to my mistake.

Actually way I figure it ... w/12 man staff I see the 13 position players being:

3 C (Napoli, Torrealba, Treanor)
5 IF (Moreland, Kinsler, Beltre, Andrus, Young)
1 UIF (Blanco)
3 OF (Hamilton, Cruz, Murphy)

That totals 12 position players who are a lock on a roster spot ... with the last spot going to Gentry on the basis of his defense, RH bat, speed, and baserunning talent.

If Gentry stays hot ... he fills more than a late inning/pinch running role ... which makes Chavez the odd man out because in my opinion TEX would benefit more from having a 12th pitcher than having Chavez.

But ... I've been wrong before. We'll see ...

I somewhat agree with that scenario, its still hard to contemplate leaving out Chavez after he's been so valuable during the regular season, but thems the breaks

Yep ... now if TEX goes with a conventional 11 man staff ... then Chavez makes it on the roster since he is the last eligible position player.

However, if TEX goes with a 12 man staff ... then with Murphy and Gentry on the roster Chavez is redundant. So it comes down to who creates more value ... Treanor (who as backup C opens up Napoli to play 1b or DH) ... or Chavez (who is cold) as 5th OF?
