Series Thread: Rangers in a short home stand with the A's

I assume you're talking about Ege. His WHIP (1.73) has been coming down lately. He's also struck out 24 in 19 IP. Something our relievers don't do. He has walked 14 though, but he isn't allowing them to score. Another thing our relievers don't do. ERA is a solid 1.37. His WHIP was 0.75 in the 9 games in HD. It wouldn't surprise me if it continues to fall.

I thought he was speaking of Mendez, who has command issues. It seems every time he comes in he seems to walk at least 1

Murph....in all honesty, if you were hanging-your-hat on this team contending, that's on you. You knew better, and you know it. Put that Kool-Aid cup down buddy.

But the A's are playing the best of damn near anyone in the ML right now. So don't rule us out at .500 for the break. And we're getting ready to go on the road, which for some strange reason, seems like home to us.

It's not so much that the Rangers should have ever been labeled "contenders". It's that the rest of the American League is just as bad. The Royals are really the only team without any true weakness.

In the East, the Yankees, Rays, Orioles, and Jays are all pretty tightly bunched, all slightly above .500, with none of them dominant enough to pull away from the pack. The Red Sox are awful.

In the Central, it's really just the Royals who are good. The Twins are a fluke with a lot of red flags. The Tigers have the same record as the Rangers. The White Sox and Indians are really bad.

And in the West, the Astros are the team to beat. The Astros. I don't know about you, but 1 good pitcher and half of a lineup full of .200 hitters who are hitting HR's at an unsustainable pace doesn't scare me. They will decline. The Angels are probably the 2nd best AL team behind the Royals. The M's stink and so did the A's until their recent fluke little run. Nobody is scared of Billy Burns and Josh Phegley.

So while the Rangers have no bullpen and an inconsistent lineup, it's not like there are a ton of other teams tearing it up either. I don't think they'll make the playoffs, but because of the mediocrity in the AL I wouldn't totally count them out either.

I would 'love' for EA to get traded to the Phillies for Hamels

Totally talking about Ege, guy always plays with fire in AA, can't imagine it getting any better at AAA or in the majors.... but hey he can strike out AA hitters

I think last night was one of 3 appearances all year (in AA) he didn't allow at least one baserunner (and one was all of one out), so yeah he strikes guys out but he's not exactly dominating either... I see more luck than him actually being good at this point, time will tell

I will admit, he is DRASTICALLY more effective against LHHs, but as Winding has said previously, this bullpen needs more than a 1 trick pony at this point, best 7 relievers, regardless of handedness

Ah ok, I don't know much about Ege. I just remember Mendez having issues with throwing strikes when he came into games, last time he was up that is.

So when his WHIP was even lower in all of the other levels with a similar or better ERA that was luck too? Sometimes I think you just argue to argue.

I'm not arguing to argue, I'm pointing out an obvious flaw i the kid's game so far, I could care less what his WHIP was in A ball and lesser hitters, once promoted it sky rocketed, I can't imagine it getting better with a promotion to AAA much less the majors

He's a one trick pony, he gets lefties out... when he's not walking them

He's intriguing as a lefty specialist down the road, I just don't see that being right now
