Willie is the odd man out to me. I mean I know he was the centerpiece of the Darvish trade and people thinks he looks the part, but I just don't see MLB quality games out of him. OF of Gallo, Solak, Taveras, and Santana is a good first 4. I'm high on Eli as well, Dietrich has something there as well. That would we be the 6 OF I would roll with next year and if there is a COF/DH right handed bat on the market that we could slot in for a few games for a reasonable amount then go with that. I just don't have a place for Willie on this roster based on what I have seen and heard about him and how quickly he gets down on himself and pouts.
For me personally I would love for Solak to be at 2b. But we all know better. If you are talking of letting Calhoun go I disagree on that at least for now. There is nothing great about Santana on defense and his offense last year was an outlier compared to other years except his 1st. But I am good with keeping him in a utility role. Eli can play AAA next year. I mean his minor league stats are just okay. And Dietrich can take a hike. Willie may have issues in the OF so maybe he is our DH but I look at what he did last year after being jerked around a number of times between the minors and MLB and still hit 21 HRs in half a season. Whether you think he pouted or not he still pulled himself up by the bootstraps. I agree with Nightcrawler that getting hit in the face can make it tough on a player at 1st. That was a tough deal there.

Astros announce that third base coach Gary Pettis was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and will miss the rest of the 2020 season. Pettis is expected to make a full recovery.

Willie will probably get a shot next year. The expectations were that he would break out this year, but I think that jaw injury might have delayed that by a year.
Yes, the thinking on Willie should revert back to what it was last offseason. This has been a lost year for him.

I don't see how anyone with multiple myeloma can said to be expected to recover. There is no cure and even the best outcomes only last for a few years. I lost a sister-in-law to that a couple of years back.

Agreed and Same can be said of Gallo. Re Huff-catchers get 50% time anyways so maybe fill-in at DH or 1B may work.

Both Huff and Trevino have had limited experience playing 1B in the minors. Trevino had more experience at 3B and 2B than 1B. He even played SS once.

The only way I would sign a free agent bat this winter would be if I was planning on trading him next July. It would take a very slecial situation. This will be a very unique type of offseason though.
signing 1 free agent bat is not going to accomplish anything so why waste the money?

Ok but Huff has been said to easily project at 1B if catcher does not work out

Any FA that will sign low is a level 3 or 4 FA who isn’t going bring much to the team would rather go with our young guys. But maybe we could sign Pence or Frazier

I doubt they are any better than our youngsters.

Nelson Cruz and Ian Desmond both signed one year deals over the last decade and both would have brought a lot in trade at deadline time..

This winter will see more free agents than ever willing to sign a one year deal because of the economic state of baseball.

Gibson seems like the newest "feast or famine" SP that we seem to find so often.

I had some time tonight, so I have put the offseason thread up with lots of questions to discuss. Bring on the offseason, and let's put this 2020 season behind us.

how about re-signing Santana to team-friendly contract and playing him in LF. Santana, Taveras and Gallo in the outfield with Eli White as the 4th outfielder and Calhoun as the DH

If Solak is not at 2B then he is in LF and Santana is our utility player which I think is a good place for him.

Oder just keeps on. If Solak is not on 2b then Oder prevents the best line up from being on the field. One thing we can give credit to Oder for, he has taught JD a lesson,,,,,we hope.

I doubt JD has learned anything
