Sorry to hear that Tony Gwynn lost his bout with cancer. A lifetime 338 hitter. That is really incredible.
You think I was serious about the Grant statement? I saw where you tried to bait posters the other day but no one went for. Does not take much to bait you though.
classic statement for a few board members here. Washington hadn't a clue while the peanut gallery knew all along. Seems to be your implication here. Since we all here played baseball at a high level and all....what was the first indicator to you that Martin should be our leadoff hitter? I think I've been as lost as Washington cause I sure didn't see any indications he was a fit. I understand the last two days has changed everything but I saw an undisciplined two cent head approach that got himself out more often than not pretty much all the time.
I'll be the first to say young players develop and evolve as players with the right direction. I understand the mental approach day after day can be a grind and coaching just might matter towards that development of a young player. I think it's been said for years how Washington helped many young players before he got to Texas. He just might be a pretty good guy to have around for the continued development of our young players. It's said that baseball is 90% mental and maybe that's an on-going process with young players. Now...if he would just do a little research as to where these guys hit before they got to the majors, we might have something working here.

If this is the peanut gallery then why do you even bother since you obviously know more than everyone else here collectively? Or is it that it makes you feel so good to climb up on that imaginary baseball throne you so love?
No Sir....was not baiting a single person. I read and post on an open public sports forum mostly about my two favorite teams. Teams I've followed for an extended period of time. I have no issue with opinions that vary from mine. I actually find it interesting to debate when they differ so greatly. I think I'm like most posters in that I value my opinions on sports and can defend most stated opinions pretty well. There is a group here that rants tirelessly about the manager's abilities and performance. While I scream at some decisions like any baseball fan will do, I actually think he's a much better manager than given credit for by the lunch pale kids that post here.
Baiting? LOL...funny word and perhaps your style if you're that insecure with your hot sports opinions. You do post them for all to read, and they are often. I hope you get past the differing opinion, perhaps a private sports message board is more your thing.

By the way. Go back and read most of my "often" posts and you will see it is about what is going on with the game itself and the players involved.
Only 54. Truly a shame.Sorry to hear that Tony Gwynn lost his bout with cancer. A lifetime 338 hitter. That is really incredible.
RIP Tony Gwynn, one of my all-time favorites and one hell of a hitter

No problem with a differing opinion. In fact for the most part I have laid off of RW because this is a tough season to begin with. I do get upset with some of his in game decisions and will let it be known when we had all our ducks in a row and more so in big game situations. But you will find very little from me about this subject once the DL took over. But I did notice that in essence your last sentence of my original post really agreed with mine. The Evan Grant piece was not to be taken serious from me.
A cautionary tale to the dangers of smokeless tobacco
You are so right. Words spoken of compassion and trueIt angers me that baseball loses such a potentially great coach at a young age because of a reckless behavior like chewing tobacco. I truly hope there are more campaigns to curtail the usage of smokeless tobacco. It's dangerous and foolhardy to throw caution to the wind. Such a pure shame...
Po Dunk will win it all.FYI....U of Texas playing Louisville for their baseball lives in the CWS is 0-0 at the end of 2 (ESPN2).
State of Texas has 3 teams in the final 8 (TT, TCU and Horns).
