I've been reading around and found this to be an interesting debate. When Randy Johnson gets inducted into the HOF which teams cap will he be wearing?

Seattle:
10 Seasons
130-74
3.42 ERA
2162 strikeouts
1 Cy Young Award
1 No Hitter

Arizona:
8 Seasons
118-62
2.83 ERA
2077 strikeouts
4 Cy Young Awards
1 Perfect Game
1 WS Title
1 WS Co-MVP
1 Killed bird

Yeah, he was very good with Seattle but other-worldly with Arizona

I would say seattle, just because they screwed andre dawson who's best years were as a cub for a defunct montreal team. It is the hall of fames decision.

I don't see much of an issue putting Dawson in with an Expos cap...

With the Expos, he hit .280/.326/.476 (122 OPS+), and with the Cubs he hit .285/.327/.507 (125 OPS)+...he had slightly better numbers overall with the Cubs, but he also played approx 600 more games with the Expos, including his early developing years.

To me and probably most people Arizona is a no brainer. Better stats across the line in Arizona. Even won the pitching Triple Crown in 2002 with 24-5 record, 2.32 ERA, and 334 K's.

I'd prefer him as a Mariner, but I understand why it should be Arizona.

He was also a fleet footed CF for his time in Montreal rather than a lumbering RF. One can argue that it was his time on Montreal's turf that slowed him down in Chicago, but that doesn't change things strictly from a value standpoint. His 4 best WAR seasons were all in Montreal, and 8 of his best 10.

Has to be Arizona. More dominant numbers all around and he was the centerpiece of a championship team.

I would say based on numbers he should go in as a Diamondback. But didn't the HoF decide on someone else based on the amount of time spent with each team?

I honestly think of the Ms when I think Randy Johnson. He established his greatness there. But I don't really care.

The HOF started deciding themselves after the Rays allegedly gave Wade Boggs $ to choose a Rays cap when he was going into the HOF.

RJ only has 200 more innings with the M's than with the D'Backs, so I think the fact that he was much better with the D'Backs trumps that (he was a pretty mediocre pitcher for close to 1/2 his tenure with the M's).

So what, Miguel Cabrera 'established his greatness' with the Marlins, but I don't think anyone would say he's likely going into the HOF wearing a fish cap.

I don't think The Marlins will have much to do with Cabrera making the Hall. Unlike Johnson, who has more wins, Ks, seasons and I assume innings with his earlier club.(Or Sparky Anderson, who has a Reds cap on on his plaque) Miguel didn't have more of anything with his earlier club. (I dont think Expos when I think of The Big Unit) Unless you covet outfield starts, which would be weird. Again though, if he did, I wouldn't really care. (Do you think Florida Marlins when you think Miguel Cabrera?)

5 of Johnson's 7 best seasons came with Arizona. The only reason he's got more K's and wins with the M's is because he has about a season more of starts with them...in just about everything else, his #'s with Arizona easily trumps his numbers with the M's

Arizona - .656 win %, 164 ERA+, 1.07 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9, 11.5 K/9
Mariner - .637 win %, 128 ERA+, 1.25 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9, 10.6 K/9

And as already mentioned, he had 4 Cys with Arizona (shouldn't been 5), and just 1 with the M's. Also, his perfect game, 20K game, and WS MVP came with the D'Backs

I don't see how it's not the D'Backs hat he's wearing...he was undeniably more dominant with them and most of his major accomplishments came with them

I don't think it is a straight number of years thing. I think it is an impact thing, as in, what team did he make the most impact to his career with.

As such, he gets an A from the HOF.

And, what? No love for the Expos or Astros?

Sheesh.......

Good one. Although he did go 10-1 in 1/3 of a season in Houston.
