Maybe the personnel isn't good enough in terms of being a puck possession team? I mean, you can teach guys to do that but it might be a little bit of both - not good enough personnel for it and a coach that isn't doing a good enough job of teaching it

The declines show with the same personnel too though. The common individual players' possession stats tend to decline as well.

It's funny, when Carlyle started in Anaheim, it started up and went down each year - in Toronto, it started down, went up and then went back down - maybe that shortened season was a fluke

This doesn't show the rest of it... possession was also higher in Toronto under Wilson, and rose in Anaheim after Carlyle's departure. This chart shows more

So I sat, sugar coating it and longing for the day when that utter abomination of hockey player was someone else's problem.
