Rams to interview Tom Gamble for GM position

Today, Gamble is scheduled to have his initial Rams interview, with all indications being that he will be the last GM candidate to receive a preliminary interview. Gamble just completed his 24th season in the NFL, including the past seven with San Francisco. He was promoted to director of player personnel a year ago by the 49ers.

Before joining San Francisco, in 2005, Gamble worked in college scouting from 1998 to 2004 in Indianapolis. He was a pro scout for Baltimore in 1997 and worked in scouting with Philadelphia from 1988-1994. In between the Ravens and Eagles came two seasons (1995-96) in coaching as a defensive assistant/quality control for the New York Jets.

Gamble is the son of Harry Gamble, former president of the Philadelphia Eagles and college head coach at Pennsylvania and Lafayette.

The Raiders looked at Gamble on two separate occasions for two different positions. I believe it was the second time Gamble turned them down but I'm not sure it was before or after he met with them. Gamble is reportedly very well respected in the NFL, and in addition to his regular responsibilities he also is a member of a few different committees in the NFL.

Frank Cignetti also is going to become the QBs coach in St. Louis. He was the 49ers QBs coach in 2007.
