Just some more experience in the Scouting Department

Also some experience in an added camp arm.
Agreed. Can't hurt to have additional backup at the quarterback position in case something happens to Goff and/or Mannion.

Same goes for Ogletree. The dumbasses in the FO are going to mess around long enough that they'll resurrect a long-standing tradition with these Rams dating back to the Queen Idiot. That is, Snead and Demoff will get the notion in their heads that they can trade Donald for draft picks and the suitors will be lining up. How many great talents have we let go/lost because of flat-out stupidity?!!

Next off-season, Austin, Barron, Woods and Saffold need to be cut if we're going to be able to re-sign Donald, Ogletree and either Alexander or Joyner. Maybe cut Quinn too, depending on how he performs this season.

The four players I listed who need to be cut would only create $4 million in dead money, but would save the team over $29.5 million. If you cut Quinn, that bumps up the cap saving to $40 million and only $5 million in dead cap space. We're slotted to have around $53 million in cap space before those cuts next off-season. That would leave the FO (hopefully a new one) with around $93 million to retain the core guys on defense (Ogletree, Alexander, Joyner, maybe Trumaine Johnson), give Donald the contract he deserves, and still be able to sign an impact player on offense- hello De'Andre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins.

Aaron Donald not present as Rams report to camp

Donald not at training camp. Can't blame the guy. The asshats in the FO think someone like Tavon Austin deserves top 5 WR money, but somehow can't make a deal work for the best defensive player in the game.
meh, part of the dance.

It's his only leverage right now, and the risks of injury outweigh the no show fines he will incur for now.

They will get it done because they both want to, just finding the number that makes sense for both sides is the trick.

The longer he sits out, and the closer we get to the Preseason, the faster this deal gets done.

The Rams can't afford to lose their best DL player in decades long term.

They can't be that stupid, can they?

I mean, this isn't Questionable Jenkins, nor Not Good Enough Johnson, or Easy Money Austin.

This is the real deal, and as a fan I want them to get it right, not too short a term, nor too rich a contract that it handcuffs the team going forward.

Once the deal is done, the Rams will forgive any and all fines he accrues now.

If any of what I just wrote, doesn't come to be, then we are screwed anyway. :L

Can't say this was a shock. I think he will show up eventually and still be the player we have all seen over the past few years.

New HC, new DC....Best player or not, he's still under contract for another couple years....Get your ass to camp!!!

At least I'm not the only one not bagging on the team for this.

He still has two more years! And then the Rams have the Rights to Tag him too for two more years.

Also wanted to add... Odell Beckham Jr. is in a similar position as Donald as far as looking for a VERY rich contract, but he showed up to camp...

No, you pay the man what he's worth and offer him a contract that reflects his value to the team. The FO has screwed up with past players and they are continuing to set that trend with the best defensive player in the game. This whole thing gives the organization a bad name and if they want to clean up their image for pending FA and those on the team who are going to become FA after this season, they need to pay Donald what he's worth, last two years of his current deal be damned.

They are going to pay him, they even said so in their press conference yesterday, something that is a huge no, no when negotiating player contracts in the NFL, because it gives more leverage to the player.

Snead and Rams head coach Sean McVay called a press conference specifically to talk about holdout defensive tackle Aaron Donald, and they both stressed that they want to get a new contract with him done.

“Aaron is a priority,” Snead said. “The goal is still the same, make Aaron a Ram for a long, long time, so that didn’t change at all. I definitely respect Aaron as a human, respect the process.”

Rams G.M. Les Snead calls Aaron Donald contract “a priority”
Tells me they're close, just ironing out some wrinkles.

You have to keep in context RF, that AD is the one pushing his negotiations up two years in the time line, that's on him, and being a no show is on him too.

This will all be settled soon, the only real problem, even for a dude who is dedicated to the study of the game as AD is, moving from the 4-3 to 3-4 requires him to be in camp from day one. He is already behind the curve, and his teammates will suffer for it, again.... that's on Donald.
