Pryor is rather good at running it. That or the team he is playing against cant seem to adjust to it very well.

Little bit of both I think. Pryor is running it well and we saw Dallas having trouble defending it last year but everything I read in the off season is every Def Coordinator in the league had it figured out and it won't last. Especially Monte.

Will be interesting to see who has it figured out and who doesnt. So far from what i have seen, not alot of teams including us, have it figured out. Good thing for us, not many of the teams we face have the QB to run it.

Hopefully this game, along with all other games leading up to it thus far, show everyone that all the teams in the NFL are behind the 8-ball when it comes to tackling and bad angles. While we had some bad plays, watching Phi and Dal completely wiff and miss tackles looked far worse that what I saw us do. Just shows the new CBA which reduces practice time and wearing pads actually hurts come game time. Guessing this will start to tighten up as the preseason continues on.

DC's may catch up with it this year. Dallas ran base all night, its preseason. Easiest way to stop the read option....hit the QB every time he runs it

Easier said than done. Especially for Dallas.

Seriously, do Cowboys fans have some mass email they send out with canned answers??

Q: What do you say when some one mentions how effective the Read option has been??

A: Its easy to stop.. just keep hitting the QB.

Kind of like saying how do you stop screen passes dont you think. So every time a RB goes into the flat, you going to dedicate a LB to chase that RB and thus not have him rushing the QB?? More power to you.

Yeah, I laugh every time I read this response about hitting the QB, its just so ignorant. So defenses are now going to crash the DEs/OLBs on every play to hit the QB to stop the read option when, in fact, the read option is only run maybe 10% of the total plays. That's brilliant. What these poor schleps don't get is that we run the read option from the same formation as we run our base offense. The only way you know its a read option is if the QB pulls it back and takes off. By that time, its too late.

As for the Raiders running it, we will see more and more teams doing it once they have the QB that can run it. It's a natural evolution as always happens in the NFL. Since DEs/OLBs have become so athletic and fast, they days of a stoic, drop back QB are dwindling. You need a mobile QB and a scheme that attacks these DEs/OLBs and freezes them, thus taking away their quickness.

Maybe it wont work all the time, but it will cause Washington to run it less, at least this year. Two knee surgeries and counting.....

Want to see how it works? Go back and watch the Skins/Ravens game. That was their strategy. Morris rushed for 129 yds. They took the OLBs and crashed and Morris ran at will right thru the hole that they left. Skins fans will welcome that defensive strategy. Oh, BTW, they never got to RG3 on the read option because he had already handed the ball off well before the OLBs got to him. You guys really need to come up with some new talking points.

The only problem with the read option in the NFL is that running qbs don't last long. You look at Randall Cunningham, Vick, RG3.....the read option may fool some defenses, but at the NFL level, the DBs and LBs are fast and strong enough to do serious damage to QBs. I think some HCs will use it sparingly knowing the risk factor is too high for injury.

This^^^^. Washington ran RG3 out there last year when he had no business being on the field, so I'm sure they will run it quite a bit. I hope they dont ruin him. I'm not a fan of the Skins, but I am a Baylor fan, and really like RG3. A quality young man

Please, I've seen what Monte can do as a.D coordinator at USC...I'M not impressed or worried.

They'll still run it but less often, just enough to keep defenses honest, what you fans don't realize is RGIII can check off his WR's just fine...the cowboys and league will be stressed again this season and RGIII just needs to learn to slide sooner, it's on him, he's a bright guy, I believe he will.

Thats the thing about Griffin, he is smart and has a great arm. To me, instead of putting him in jeopardy with a lot of read option, I would pattern the offense to more of a GB style. Griffin could end up just as good as Rodgers in that style(and he's the best in the game), with the threat of the run always there if he needs it

I've read a few articles this season in which guys that have actually been involved with pro football, not fans, not reporters, have stated that they think this is going to be a problem for defenses this season and its going to take a little while to catch-up to this trend.

Conversely, it's pretty obvious that if a team places its QB in less than ideal circumstances more often, the risk of losing these QBs increases. Generally speaking, the solution to slowing down an offense is applying pressure. I'm sure that will ultimately be part of the equation here. However, as someone else stated, a current issue is that many of today's defenders seem to take bad angles and/or they do a poor job of wrapping up.

The time to win with a "mobile QB" is now, before defenses catch-up, as they always have. As it relates to the Skins, the NFCE has 4 average teams, so the division is ready to be taken by the team that can stumble into 10 wins. After that, all bets are off, but a team obviously has to get there to have an opportunity to win a championship.

Read option doen't put him in jeopardy. It actually keeps him protected. Gives him more time in the pocket. Time he wouldn't have without the threat of the read option.

He wasn't injured on a read option play. This is what people who make your arguments always seem to either forget or are ignorant of.
