Future Flyer Cup-Winner
Rangers are 5 for 5 against Philly so far this year. In addition, they need but a single point to clinch both the Atlantic Division title and the Eastern Conference first seed. The Flyers can also clinch some things with a point - specifically they would clinch a first round matchup with Pittsburgh or New York as they would lock in the fifth seed.
The Rangers are coming off a narrow loss to Boston, who also was in danger of allowing a Rangers regular-season sweep, and who also clinched the Northwest on Sunday. They are relatively healthy for this time of year, currently missing Sauer, Eminger, and Zuccarello. Lundqvist starts in net for the Rangers; he has allowed only eight goals against the Flyers in the five meetings this season.
The Flyers are coming off a brawl to the Penguins which also featured a hockey game, which they won. A point tonight allows the team to continue to control their own destiny for the fourth seed - despite being a point behind the Pens with no games in hand, the final game of the season between the two clubs allows the Flyers to take home ice if they win out (a tie in the standings favors Philly due to their superior number of non-shootout wins). Philly's injury list is rather extensive - Mezaros, Van Riemsdyk, Pronger, Laperriere, Grossman, Briere. The Flyers starting goalie is no longer injured, however, as Bryzgalov is expected to start despite having a bone chip fracture. Bryzgalov has allowed eight goals to the Rangers this year despite only playing them twice.
