Just a fantastic story-teller; especially those first two VU albums.

His music is hard to catagorize at times, but suffice it to say that his influence has spread far and wide. Without Lou Reed, rock and roll would have been far less interesting. He was one of those artists that didn't really give a rat's ass at how badly the critics slammed his music--and sometimes the criticism was well deserved--and would stick to his creative genius, regardless of where it led him.....also sad to hear about John McVie's cancer diagnosis.

Reed's entire life was a walk on the wild side, transforming millions of rigid thinkers into tolerating believers. We didn't just appreciate his talent...we were changed (for the better) by his music and the strength of his character.

:sad2:Shocked, just like everyone else
Just read an e-mail minutes ago
I'm going to see Phish in Hartford tonite..Rock and Roll is played frequently by them..You know it will be played by them. It would be very appropriate if they opened their gig with it tonite..
They , infrequently do shows on Halloween when the cover entire releases.
In the past they did the Velvet's "Loaded", among others; so It wouldn't suprise me, again, if they did other songs from that release tonite.

When I heard about the liver transplant and then nothing, I figured it wouldn't be long. Favorite live rock LP of all time -

That many big Lou Reed fans? I never got it. Can't fathom his name and the word "genius" being in the same sentence. Sad that he died, but I can't understand the lionization.

Different strokes. He & VU's influence on music is inarguable though.
