Most are 10-12, but there's a lot more of them this year. See a few 15-20 bird coveys here and there. The drought really hasn't been too bad the last two years which is the biggest reason for the significant growth over the last two years. If we can have good conditions again this year, I think next year could be awesome.
We are puttting out Quail watering stations and doing some planting of forage that the Quail can get all the water they need out of. It will take me a few years but I will get this place into Quail habitat that they can thrive in.

Was awesome in Texas when the limit was 25 and we had the birds to get your limit.

Hijackin yer thread 4 a moment...

True story...

Chukkar huntin out here in Orygun...good lil' snowstorm a blowing in, 3-6 inches light powder by morning.

Wake up early and head out and hunt ALL DAY...fucking beautiful outside, easy hiking, quiet walking-steady snowfall...hike up to the high draws and start huntin the grain fields up top...windy as hell up there, no birds....we decide to "drop down" a solid 3 finger draw...Norman Rockwell couldn't have drawn a better picture as those coveys bursted out of the sage bushes throwin powder snow everywhere, My fellow hunters, there is nothing better than hunting on a snowy day, wif buddies, floating thru your day.

I have always wanted to hunt wild chukars. It's on my bucket list, along with an upland hunting trip to montana.

Had my best hunting day so far. My buddy and I had our Oklahoma limit (20) in 3 hours. We moved 12 coveys total and had our limit by 11.

Where did you hunt in Oklahoma? My nephew was by yesterday to hunt pheasants and said the quail up by Perry are the best he's seen in over five years.

Beaver county.

Hell, that isn't "near" the panhandle that "is" the panhandle. I'm right north of Beaver County, just east of the Texas county line about 2 miles or so (have to look at a map to be exact). My nephew hunted pheasant just south of here. Did you run into any pheasants?

Saw one rooster. We've seen em on that lease before, but it's really more of quail habitat. Takes me about 3 hours to make the drive. Day trips make for long days.

Yeah, I used to drive up from Norman to hunt with my dad. Never did it unless I could hunt at least two days though.

I prefer to hunt two days if I can, but I have to hunt with somebody else with dogs too or I won't have enough dog power on day two. I hunt hard, and prefer to have 3 dogs down at minimum. Considering I currently only have 3 dogs, you can see how tough that would be on them over 2 days

Moved 6 coveys in the texas panhandle yesterday with three dogs. Got 11 birds. Was unfortunate to not get shots at a couple of em or I would've had my limits. 4 had 15 or so birds, 2 had around 20.

Went Saturday for half a day moved six nice 20-25 bird coveys. Got in a big covey of Blue Quail that had a hen Pheasant with them. Kind or weird. Went today on a half section of thick cover and moved four coveys. Hunted about three hours. I sure thought we would see more birds. All the trail cams at deer feeders showed 15-20 birds. Must have missed them.

4 coveys in three hours is nothing to turn your nose up at.

I am very excited about this ranch. It can and will be a great Quail ranch. Turn some dirt and plant some food and provide some water I think it will produce as good as I have seen.

I hope you get your new pup going good and have the chance.

Have a pro trainer coming Thursday to show me some dogs. He has won the N.C. three times so he should be a good contact. Cannot wait.
