Kariya may follow...

It looks like Teemu Selanne will be back for his 18th season in the National Hockey League.

The veteran forward told Finnish sports magazine Sports Journal on Friday that he intends to return for 'at least another year' and a contract with the Anaheim Ducks should be done over the next few days.

"I made the decision to continue my career," he told the magazine. "In fact, it has been clear for a long time. Negotiations are now ready to begin."

Selanne, who is expected to play his 12th season with the Ducks, added that his level of play and the direction the Ducks were going in affected his decision. In 54 games last season, he scored 21 goals and 48 points.

"I informed (Anaheim) that if they re-build (the team), I'll then do something else," Selanne said. "With the guys that the team has acquired, I'm convinced that we can still succeed."

The Ducks added plenty of depth over the summer, signing defenceman Andy Sutton and fellow countrymen Toni Lydman and Saku Koivu.

Selanne also told the Journal that he's made a pitch to the Ducks and former teammate Paul Kariya for a reunion in Anaheim.

"I've talked to Paul and the Ducks," said Selanne. "Paul has been waiting for my decision and I hope things move forward," he said.

In 1,186 career games split between the Ducks, Winnipeg Jets, Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks, Selanne has 606 goals and 1,260 points.

I don't think I want to see that Selanne - Kariya reunion again.
It was a total failure in Colorado (yay!), but Ducks have the depth where these cats could just have fun out there.
Throw Koivu on that line and it has a chance be the mot dangerous 2nd line in the game

then again, it's not 1996 anymore.

Because of Selanne's deteriorating leg. He currently has metal parts built by the Skynet Corporation. If he still skates like he did with Saku Koivu last season (41 Goal pace; second in Goals per Minute to Ovechkin), adding Kariya is going to make a pretty good second-line. Well... until they start to out-pace RPG like they did late last season and become the first line again. :p

Seriously though: Built by Skynet.

Amazed that no one is as surprised as I was of that picture of a younger (and significantly lamer) Teemu Selanne. This is supposed to be the funny hockey board. Nobody's got nothin...?

Back where he belongs. Hopefully PK goes with him and they retire at the same time as Ducks.

That'd be a great story. Plus, it'd give the team an excuse to have the dual-jersey retirement night.
