Mark Gubicza is the color commentator for the Anaheim Angeles and for the most part is a pretty decent announcer. However, there is something he says during the game that absolutely drives me crazy. When an Angels batter is at the plate and fouls a pitch straight back, Gubicza says, " He was all over that pitch. " To me thats absolute bullshit. If he was all over that pitch he would have hit the crap out of it. That comment is especially irritating when the Angels are getting the shit kicked out of them.

I'm sure some of you have pet peeves about your teams announcers.

Usually when a batter fouls a ball straight back it means they have it timed.

I actually heard one by Vin Scully yesterday that was pretty nonsensical. He was talking about how Andre Ethier was hitting lefties better than righties this year, and how surprising that was. He neglected to mention that Ethier is hitting in the .230 range overall, so really, he's not hitting much of anyone.

However, since Scully is the greatest announcer to ever call a major league game, he gets a pass. :)

Vin Scully is the most boring and monotonous announcer I have ever listened to in my entire life, in any sport.

He is knowledgeable, I'll give you that. But, he's boring. His longevity and the fact that he works in the second largest media metropolis in the United States, combine to make him extremely overrated. He's more overrated than Yankee prospects.

Interesting thoughts from Vin. It's hard to disagree with anything he says.

The entire broadcasting career of Tim McCarver..

:drink::drink:

Not to mention hall of famer Joe Morgan. Allow me to sum up his entire career,

"As a Hall of Famer I can attest to the fact the Yankees great teams sucked. And as Joe Morgan, hall of famer, I would know, being a Hall of Famer"

It's a non-stop barrage of nonsense with every M's broadcast.

FIRE JOE MORGAN

This was a brilliant site while it lasted. I still go through it and read all the posts occassionally. I wish those guys were still doing it.

I remember that. It seemed he just made it up as he went along and did no homework.

"And he has good pop, Jeter's good for 20 HR's a year".
-Joe Morgan 2009

Jeter hit 20 HR's exactly 3 times in 20 years.

I'm fairly forgiving with announcers when they are being complete homers, but I can't stand when an announcer says "we."

You don't play for the team, Jefe.

I dont get this hatred for the use of "we". An announcer actually works for the team, and travels with the team. They know all the guys personally. Their life is absolutely interwoven with the team. Why shouldnt they use "we"?

As for fans, I am OK with SOME fans using "we". Basically, everyone on this site is a freak, and should be allowed to use "we". I have been following the Giants almost religiously since I discovered baseball in '86/'87. I have more love for the franchise than most players who play for the team. They will leave the team in a second if they are a FA and some other team offers more money (and good for them, this is their job). I sometimes use "we", and will continue to use "we". The Giants are a part of my life.

I try not to use the word for other teams that I just like, like the Niners or Warriors. I do not have the same connection with these teams that I have for the Giants.
