Yes is from that wall crash last week.

Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig will miss Sunday's game with a hip injury, the Los Angeles Times reports. Puig has been dealing with the injury since June 3 but was forced to leave the game Saturday due to the injury. He is expected to return to the lineup following the All-Star break but the hip will likely keep him out of consideration as an injury replacement.

Now I see why the decision for McCann.

Puig came in and played today, had 3 AB's. I know, I benched him thinking he was hurt :L

As stupid as the AS game is, it does determine home field advantage.

The majority of WS winners have come from the league that has home field advantage for a decade and more.

That's something you don't play with. An extra catcher was a wiser addition to the team than another outfielder.

It won't stop butt hurt children from whining about Pig, though.

I wasn't whining about Puig I was just saying that they left themselves open to criticism, SportsChic already mentioned someone else who could have got the nod. I actually was wondering why A-Gon was so low.

Martin's been ice cold for a few weeks now. He's been great defensively and handling the staff, but he doesn't have an All-Star bat over the first half of the season. There was a time when he did, but his slump has really dropped his numbers.

Thanks for the fan intel. Had no idea he cooled off lately.

Don't get me started on the stupidity of the all star game deciding home field advantage.

Agree. Should go by whoever has the best record.

Selig added this to AS Game after his bad decision to call the Milwaukee game a draw. Felt calling that game a draw might lessen fan interest in the next one.

Pig has been playing for about 5 minutes. It would've been a joke if he had made the AS team...and that's really something since the whole spectacle is already a joke.

I can see both sides of this and I think that the issue is baseball's "unwritten rules"!!

If there is an "unwritten rule" that a player has to play X number of games to be considered eligible for the All-Star game, then make it a written rule and all of this stuff about Puig goes away!! I have zero problem with placing a "minimum games" restriction on All-Star eligibility.

If it is going to remain an "unwritten rule", then folks need to understand that if a guy comes in and has a 6 week run that is right up there with guys like DiMaggio, etc. and that has been better than virtually all of the all-time greats first 6 weeks, then maybe he should get in!!

Plus, it's made some folks look kind of silly!! When the "Puig on the All-Star team" talk first started, it was "4 weeks isn't a big enough sample size", then it was "5 weeks isn't a big enough sample size" and then this morning on Dan Patrick, Jim Leyland says "6 weeks isn't a big enough sample size"!! So where's the line? What constitutes a "big enough sample size"?

Having said that, as a Dodger fan, I'm glad he didn't make it. I think it will be better for the team if he takes the days off, gets treatment on his hip and comes back healthy and rested for NL West race!!

I don't know why no one has mentioned Freeman and McCann playing on the same team. That certainly factors into the decision, I mean it's not just coincidence that Melancon replaced Locke and Mujica replaced Wainwright even though both the Pirates and Cardinals already had other players on the roster. They seem to try to go with a teammate if there's an option that isn't completely unreasonable.

Wow. Convoluted.

It has nothing to do with written or unwritten rules. Just common sense.

He seems to be an amazing talent, but only somebody with ZERO common sense would think what he has played so far indicates anything at all.

Since nobody has stepped up on this yet, let me go after the semantics of the thread title.

I have a hard time thinking there is anyone out there that feels that Puig was snubbed. He was NOT snubbed. He was just not picked. BIG difference, to me anyway. To be snubbed is to be fully worthy, and then not be picked.

He could have been picked. I never got as far as "should" myself. He would have been a nice add. But, as it was not to be, oh well.

And, though Freeman was a fan vote, it appears there is no cavaet on how to replace that player, hence it became a managers decision.

Never said anything about whether or not he SHOULD have been there or not!! In fact, I went as far as to say that I can see both sides of the issue, but I never said whether I thought he should be there or not. Then I ended it by saying that I'm glad he didn't make it.

And with baseball, it has much to do with unwritten rules!! There are all kinds of unwritten rules that govern much of baseball (it's actually one of the cooler things about the sport, imo).

In your rush to say those who may disagree with you have ZERO common sense, you didn't address what the acceptable amount of time is. Apparently, it's not 4 weeks or even 5 and Jim Leyland says that 6 weeks isn't enough, so how many weeks is it? What is your number of games/weeks that it takes for consideration?

Personally, I like that he was added to the fan vote. The fans spoke and did not vote him in. I have no issue with that!! I do, however, think that if we're going to say someone doesn't have a large enough sample size to make the all-star game, then we should at least have some definitive idea as to how large the sample size needs to be!!
