Roto World:
"Brian McCann has been selected to replace Freddie Freeman on the NL All-Star team.

McCann has been healthy for just 53 games this season, but is batting .291/.374/.536 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI over 206 plate appearances. Freeman beat out Yasiel Puig in the NL Final Vote, but suffered a thumb Saturday and was ruled out for the All-Star game."

That bites for Puig. Came into the league at the same time McCann came off the DL and will have to prove his worth for nect year AS game.

Isn't Puig hurt right now? Also, a 3rd catcher couldn't hurt.

Based purely on talent, Puig should be in but you don't build a baseball team purely around talent without factoring in positions and health.

They didn't need an outfielder, it was as simple as that. It wasn't a snub.

Yes is from that wall crash last week.

Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig will [ame=""]miss Sunday's game[/ame] with a hip injury, the Los Angeles Times reports. Puig has been dealing with the injury since June 3 but was forced to leave the game Saturday due to the injury. He is expected to return to the lineup following the All-Star break but the hip will likely keep him out of consideration as an injury replacement.

Now I see why the decision for McCann.

I'll tell you one thing: as a fan of an NL team, I did want Puig in there just because any NL team that makes the World Series this year is going to need every advantage it gets. The NL and AL power level seems to have flipped from last year.

That's no reason to want a player that has only 40 big league games on his resume, you make the All Star team mostly based on what you did the year before in many cases....

How did they go from Freeman to McCann? I can see it with Puig being hurt, but what happened to Pence and the other guys?

Even if he is the hottest hitter in baseball and has a talented arm for defense? I'm from the show-me state but Ive also seen what has happened to my Cardinals when Molina, Freese, Komza and Shelby Miller have all gone cold at the same time. You need a certain number of players that are in their groove.

Pig has been playing for about 5 minutes. It would've been a joke if he had made the AS team...and that's really something since the whole spectacle is already a joke.

Mike Trout came up after the 1st month was completed and made the AL squad in 2012.

How'd Gonzalez come in dead last on the final vote though? He's batting .500 with runners on and 2 outs.

They should have picked somebody who had played the entire season to replace him. McCann didn't and Puig didn't, either.

Yeah, they left themselves open to criticism.

Yeah, they left themselves open to criticism.

Since they took another catcher then Russell Martin should of got the nod as he did a great job grooming the young replacements for the Pirates in their pitching staff when James McDonald, AJ Burnett, and Wandy Rodriguez where all on the DL at the same time. Burnett just return but help the Pirates to a top 3 team so far with great game calling for future stars Jeff Locke and Gerrit Cole.

As stupid as the AS game is, it does determine home field advantage.

The majority of WS winners have come from the league that has home field advantage for a decade and more.

That's something you don't play with. An extra catcher was a wiser addition to the team than another outfielder.

It won't stop butt hurt children from whining about Pig, though.

I don't agree with you very much, in fact, I think this is the first time I've ever agreed with you on anything, but well said, sir! :D

Don't get me started on the stupidity of the all star game deciding home field advantage.
