I dont like it either. If you aren't healthy going into December, you're done.
Same thing last year with the Eagles and Cowboys. Why do they do this? Division games should be spread out
Sorry guys but I have to disagree... Division games mean a lot and as such should ALL be at the end of the season. Here are some reasons why IMO.

1. Six games to determine the division champion and possible wildcard.

2. More interest in these games because they will determine fate. That's .35 percent of the schedule either way.

3. It's similar to the college basketball conference play in terms of interest, ticket sales, and regional support. To a lesser degree similar to the end of the college football season when you have Alabama vs SEC opponent or Ohio State vs Big 10 opponent et.al. to qualify for the postseason. People absolutely love this because of all factors already mentioned, and in #4 below.

4. It literally strengthens interplay and heightens rivalries, all good for the league.

5. Now to your point @kbso83432, isn't that true anyway?

6. ...and to your point, @deanpet21, didn't those games actually go a long way in determining division champs?

BTW: think of the unadulterated joy it brings to knock the Eagles, Giants, and Goatropers out of the playoffs!! The same thing would apply to them vs us too!

Got hit with the injury and covid bug with nothing but division games on deck. Division games count double because you are giving a team in your division a win when you lose to them. Two or three is cool, but five was too much imo.

I agree, but that was then and this is now. The pandemic isn't over but we know a lot more about handling it. Injuries are going to happen...next man up becomes a thing again.

I also agree that division games count double, but aren't they taking that same chance to lose, and that loss be counted as double against them? Besides it's the end of the season (last six games) they should count for more as teams push for division crowns, playoff, and wildcard spots. Easy answer, win these games and if you can't you have a pre-determined goal of figuring out why you didn't and what you must do to change that.

I must admit that a part of my stance comes from the past when the NFC East champion was the odds on favorite to win it all because they had to run the gauntlet of NFCE opponents. I know outside of the Eagles' most recent SB win all of this is a distant memory but division play meant a lot then and could again if only they made it so. I also know that people want evidence so here's a record that still exists:

Which NFL division has the most Super Bowl wins?

  • The NFC East has a total of 13 Super Bowl wins. The NFC East has three teams that have won more than two Super Bowl championships. ...
  • Dallas Cowboys have won 5 Super Bowls. The Dallas Cowboys have won five Super Bowl championships. ...
  • New York Giants have won 4 Super Bowls. ...
  • Washington has 3 Super Bowl wins. ...
  • Philadelphia Eagles have 1 Super Bowl win. ...
If this holds, the division shrinks 28 teams' chances of winning it all down to .125% and increases the division having a representative in the SB to 99.875. In the division, we're down to 4 teams or a 25% chance that it will be our team.

No I get it. I'm 47. I remember when the NFC East won four SBs in a row. I just think five is overkill. I liked it better in the 80s and 90s when it was spaced out.

A huge game in Dallas maybe week two. A huge home Monday Night game around Halloween vs the Giants.

Then maybe a big game vs the Cardinals in late December at Busch Stadium. This five game gauntlet to decide the division is in a sense good because if you can stay within a game or two you control your own destiny.

However, I don't like the fact that if a team is decimated by injuries or covid, you are shit outta luck. You are about to rack up four or five division losses that you could have won a couple of had the games been spread out.

I get it, really I do, you make valid points about this that I don't disagree with at all.

Those injuries are going to happen, perhaps hiring a Bubba Tyer type could remedy that or at minimum, it becomes another thing to fix on the way to dominating the division.
