You're complaining because a QB took what the defense gave him and made a successful drive out of it?

You guys are funny. I came here looking for some reasonable assessment of the game as I'm just finishing it up. NOPE.

What is unreasonable about saying a guy can't throw it more than 5 yards? I know you must like the kid, but the passes he threw down field were awful. I'm glad he can score against a prevent defense that's playing 12 yards off the line of scrimmage, but we already knew that about the kid.

Well yeah I like him and he was the reason I watched the game to start with. However, the other drives were killed by the rest of your offense, not because of him. And then you for some reason take points off him for taking what the defense gave him and turning it into a score.

Was he supposed to throw into the defense? Is that what you wanted to see? Because as far as I can tell, he did the right things and it's hardly his fault the team was in that position.

You have to understand..... There is no bigger group of fans in the NFL that want the kid to succeed. I'd love for him to be the guy. The book on him coming out of college was that he was a terrific leader, a winner, etc..... But he might be too athletically limited for the NFL. Yes, he was put in bad situations on Monday -- But some of the throws he made down field in that situation were weak and they seem to match the scouting report. Again, I hope he's a HOF player. For us.

Well I'm not saying he is the next Peyton Manning or anything, I just don't think he played bad and showed lots of smarts and poise. He reads defenses well, he reads them fast. He takes care of the football and makes good decisions.

He has a decent arm, you can check out Alabama highlights and see it. He can make the throws, but he's not a big risk taker, that's been completely coached out of him(literally got a spanking on the sideline once).

The guy goes out, completes 73% of his passes(11/15). Drives the field in the only drive that didn't get ruined by other things(even on at least one of those drives there were dropped passes and such).

That's AJ getting it done like he always has. He's capable of throwing deeper passes if defenses give it up, but instead he's going to take control of the game and move the team down the field methodically. He takes what is available and understands the value of 3 yards on 1st down over taking a lower chance/higher risk throw that leaves you with 2nd and 10 and in an entirely different situation.

As far as I could tell he made the most of what he was given, and if your team can't win with that kind of QB play then it's due to the rest of your team not the QB(assuming similar performance with and against the 1s) .

And apparently your coaching staff agreed as they turned around and released AJ's competition for 2nd.

The more work we give McCarron in the preseason the better. Mike Brown isn't going to pay Dalton top 5 QB money when he finishes with the #25 qb rating in the NFL again.
It will either be McCarron in the next few years or another prospect. and the only thing going for us this year is that the rest of our division isn't a strong as it's been in the past, although I always expect Pittsburgh to beat our ass.

Always a good assumption..... But they might struggle against other teams. The Pouncey injury is tough for them. Cheech is suspended the first two games and now they have their promising second year receiver facing a suspension. And no more Dick LeBeau......

Pouncey gets hurt and misses 4+ games basically every other year.

Without knowing anything about the stats (PFF, outsiders, whatever), I assume their offense is much better when he is healthy.

If that's not the case, it's hard for me to understand how overhyped he is.

He's verygood. But he gets hurt a lot. And because they are a smart franchise, they adjust and do ok while he's out, unlike a certain franchise that we all like.

Look McCarron is as strong as Andy's.....you mofos act like we need Flacco back there to win consistently....We need a MISTAKE FREE GOOD DECISION QB! Can McCarron do that??? if so Lead and Lace em up and lets go win some damn games..... AJ would have 2 good rbs 2 good TE;s at his disposal and he can take shots with Green and Jones.....We dont need him to throw 70 yards bombs just complete some of those 40 to 50 yarders and none of you will say the dude cant throw damn 40 yards... I hope he continues to grow... Leadership skills are WAY BETTER than Andy's.... HANDS DOWN!

AJ McCarron wouldn't be able to lead Seattle to a playoff victory, much less this team. He was a 5th round draft pick for a reason. The number of times they work out is horribly horribly low. Lets be reasonable guys. McCarron is nothing more than possibly a quality backup. He is Matt McGloin

Tom Brady was a 6th round pick.

Just saying.

I, too, think McCarron may have lost something with his arm. We will see. He has a quarter to play tomorrow night, and nearly 3 quarters of football next week. Let's see how he progresses. It has been a year and half or more since he was last in a real football game.

This.

We can all accept that Tom Brady was a 6th rounder -- And his case is extremely rare. AJ slipped for the same reason a lot of good college quarterbacks slip - The talent doesn't match the intangibles. Look at Colt McCoy - Very few college players were more of a winner than that kid. Does he look like a pro qb to you? It's a different game.

Actually, I don't think Colt McCoy was that bad and got screwed by the Browns. I think if they had given him a chance he could have been a league average QB.

But, we already have a league average QB in Dalton. League average doesn't help us any. We need that proverbial franchise QB. Give us that, we are SB bound and down.

How many true franchise quarterbacks are there in the NFL?

How many true franchise QB's are in the NFL? That's all most teams need to be SB contenders.

That is very very true. That doesn't mean that we don't still need one. One of these days we will have it. I thought we had it in Palmer, but he was never really the same QB after the injury by Kimo. He played decent, but he was a shell of his former self after that.
