Can we keep this defense? Screw the vets!

God damn Urbom is freaking huge. Larsson is like 6'3", and he looks small next to him. The 6'4" on the site can't be right. He's looking 6'6". Not to mention Gelinas is 6'4". Merrill 6'3". Severson 6'2". Some big kids knocking on the door.

Even better. Larsson and Gelinas are opposite shooting defensemen. So they perfectly setup to work the points.

Only bad thing about this game was hearing that idiot Micholetti (sp?) on the broadcast. Makes you appreciate Cangi and Chico

Ha, there was 0 chemistry whatsoever.

That 2nd line looked very good together. They had speed, they were creating chances the whole game, all making a case for themselves.

The young D looks promising.

Obviously only preseason but Schneider not letting up a goal on 22 shots is as good a performance as you could ask for.

Missed the game due to business trip.
So Teds looked good? I think I am one of the few who believe in the kid.
Saw the posts about Gelinas and Urbom. That's really good to know.
Hoping this is a breakout season for Larsson.

Only preseason, I know, but you know there are guys doing their best to crack the lineup.

So that Gelinas goal, anybody notice Bernier setting the screen? Big bodies in front of the goalie on the PP. It works. I hope that becomes a staple for our PP.

One thing I loved about Schneider and I think it really is the difference between good and great goalies was his rebound control. It's not just about stopping the shot, he was directing rebounds either to the corner to buy time for defenders or back up ice for a counterattack. It adds a whole other element to the game when goalies can do that.

Am I a bad person for being more excited about Schneider starting in goal rather than our Legendary Marty?

I feel awful

You shouldn't. We know what to expect from Marty, love what Marty has done but Schneider is the future. There is no shame in getting excited that the guy we'll (hopefully) be seeing for the next 10 years had a great debut.

No, on the way home from the draft my buddy (Rangers fan, ugh) and I were driving back, and I said to him, Marty is done. And he asks what I mean. I told him, that I love Marty, will be a wreck when he hangs up the skates, BUT, no matter how well he plays, Schneids (who I watched play A LOT) in college is just too good. He's going to take the job, and even 30 y/o Marty would have a hard time stopping him. 41 y/o Marty is still good, but not going to hold this kid off for long. It's Cory's net by Christmas. Just the way it is.

With the Cup run we were really, really loaded on offense and had a great team attack. We didn't need ultra elite goaltending. We still got great goaltending from Marty in the run, but this team is going to need ULTRA ELITE, and that's the kid.

I also wouldn't be shocked if Schneider winds up being the guy due to Marty breaking down. Marty has had a tough time staying healthy the past few years. So we may see Schneider being backed up by Kinkaid/Wedgewood on more than 1 occasion.

Hard not to be excited about Schneider.

Came out today that Marty is getting the first start of the season in Pittsburgh..which probably means Cory gets the home opener the next night. I think thats a smart move by PDB. Crowd will be jacked that night with all the new guys in the lineup.
