Gilbert already signed with the Raiders practice squad, so we're out of luck there.

And I think Butler and Stanford are both out of p-squad eligibility, but I may be wrong there. They're both veteran players, been around the league for a few years each...

OK, didn't know they were done. Might explain why we went for Baptiste instead.

We let Gilbert get away. Moore I didn't mind see go. Gilbert I liked. I will keep an eye out for QBs but I am not getting my hopes up.

ex-Iowa QB, Ricky Stanzi, is now signed to practice squad

Detroit Lions sign QB Ricky Stanzi to practice squad
Needed a 3rd QB and there's definitely not a lot of good options out there. Stanzi reminds me a lot of Orlovsky- takes a lot of shit for not being better, yet has managed to make a helluva living as a back-up QB in the NFL for a long time now. Not many guys in the world can do that, but many wish they could.

I've been all for drafting a long-term back-up for years now, and moves like this validate that line of thinking, imo. There's a lack of quality QBs sufficient to fill the needs league-wide, so getting one in the later-half of the draft makes sense to me.

We also signed former Lion Az Hakim's bother, "WR"/return specialist Saalim Hakim, to fill the final spot.

I like the majority of the unit they put together, although I'd be happy to see upgrades over Cave, Hyder, and Hakim. Another QB or more CBs would be great, imo.

Hell I'm not big some starters making a living, much less a backup.( no that is not a Stafford thing) I would rather see like you, a 4th or 5th round guy drafted. I said this other day speaking a luxury pick in 2016. Lions don't need a replacement QB. Just a competent one that can develop. There is a reason DanO and Stanzi are what they are. So instead of having a guy that's peaked. I'd rather have a kid with promise. That ain't Stanzi. My two are on other rosters. Petty and Gilbert

I liked Hyder. Not because he got three recoveries either. Would have liked to have seen him with some starters or few more rotational guys in preseason. He never gave up on plays and seemed to have decent technique already. Like to see more DB's also.

Letting Gilbert get away was foolish, imo.
