Great thread. Arky Vaughan- 1935. Probably the best season by a shortstop not named Honus Wagner (maybe A-Rod in '03, but I'll take Vaughan's season). In 610 PA, he hit .385/.491/.607. He had a 194 wRC+, a number Trout has never been within 17 points of in any season. He had a 9.4 fWAR, and a .493 wOBA. He was also decent defensively and had a 15.9% BB% vs. a 3% K%. That's crazy good. I'll post some more as I have a weird fetish for great individual seasons.

Brad Lidge 2008. Even though closers are overvalued in my opinion it sure is great when you have one that doesn't blow any saves.

All that acid and weed smoke clouding your memory of the early '70s?

I was in attendence for the first of his 8 earned runs.

Remember thinking "Wade Davis throws this hard!?!"

I hope I got this in the right category, I'm still a newbyish

Mine, George Brett 1980

515 PA, 175 Hits, 58 BB, 22 K, .390/.454/.664, 87 Runs, 118 RBIs, 24 HR, 33-2B, 9-3B, 1.118 OPS, 203 OPS+

Great favorite. I met him in 82. He was dating my 2nd grade teacher when I lived in Ft Leavenworth. He came to our class a few times and took us all to a game. Gave us autographs. He signed my glove. He was super cool.

Yeah that's what you'd like to believe. But I was up to my knees in rice patties, with guns going up against Charlie, slugging it out with him, while pussies like you were back here partying, putting headbands on, doing drugs, listening to the goddamned Beatles Albums!

Pedro was something else to watch in an age of freewheeling offenses. I am not sure it's even fair to list just one year. In an era where great pitching was smothered, he still shined bright every 5th day with some unreal FIP-, ERA, whatever number you can think of. I just wonder what Kershaw would have done back then.

One of the all-time "overrated" seasons, Donnie wasn't even the best player on his own team in 1985 (that was the guy who kept getting on base in front of him).
