Coric did it. 6-2, 7-6 over Nadal. The kid is freakishly talented. He plays like Djokovic, with great movement, a huge margin of error on shots (rarely paints lines), and deceptive speed. The movement and ability to get big shots back isn't there yet, but that's to be expected for a 17-year-old. The scariest part is that his first serve is better than Nole's.

I'll be very surprised if he's not #1 somebody. He's the most naturally talented of all the youngsters besides Kozlov, and he's a lot more athletic than Stefan. His game also has a completeness that a big hitter like Kyrgios lacks.

Nadal has never played well on indoor courts since they're lightning fast.

I predict that he's going to have early exits a lot more consistently on outdoor hard courts as well, and I doubt he'll ever be a real contender at Wimbledon again, even though they seem to slow the courts there more every year.

and yeah, Coric is very talented, and I think he's better and more hungry than the current 22-24 years olds we're waiting on to step it up.

i have little doubt he'll win a major within the next 5 years, whereas i have many doubts about most of the young guns currently in the top 20 being able to do so.

I think 17 is the very definitive age where you can tell about whether someone is gonna win a slam. Nadal, Becker, Chang all belong in that club ( although the latter fizzled out pretty badly).

Federer matured later but not too much later. Dimitrov still has time but he needs to win something soon otherwise he will turn into a coria or rios.

No need to give up completely on Nadal. I am sure his uncle will find a way.

lol

it really helps that he hasn't played consecutive full seasons in how many years?

we're talking at least 18 months he's been off the competitive circuit completely in the past 5 years.

even though I don't think he's taking PED, i think that alone has kept him from slowing down too badly or as precipitously as many of us thought he would.

Yeah,I agree. You can just tell with some kids in their teens that they have the stuff to win majors.

I never thought Dimitrov did, but if Nole/Murray/Nadal burn out in the next couple of years, he might be able to eke out a major before the next big talents (like Coric) are ready to do it.
