We are currently the #8 seed. The dogs have already clinched HFA throughout the playoffs.

7) Cin (3 @ Min) +0.5
8) SF (4 vs SD) —
9) Phi (3 @ TB) -0.5
10) Mil (3 @ StL; 1 vs StL (@ StL)) -1.0
11) NYM (3 @ Wsh) -2.5
12) Col (4 @ Arz) -3.0

All our competition is on the road while we are at home. I think you can rule out the Mutts and pebbles.

The Padres have already clinched a 2nd place finish, so they are basically playing for nothing at this point.
The Twinks have secured a playoff spot, but still needs to clinch the division.
TB has clinched the division, but still needs to secure the AL #1 seed.
StL is fighting off Cin and Mil for both the #2 spot in the Central AND the WC.

i think the Giants and Phil’s have the easiest opponents this weekend because they really aren’t playing for anything. And unless the Reds fall on their face against the Twinks, I see 2 teams coming out of the Central. So it basically comes down to the Giants and Phil’s for the last spot (could be 7 or 8).

The Mil/StL series and the Cin/Min series, I think, have very little to do with us. It is all about SF/SD and Phi/TB.

Good summary. My thought is that it's going to come down to moundshattery.

If we defecate the mound, we lose. If we don't, we're in.

I haven't looked to see how ties are handled, but I assume that a win today assures a postseason trip for the Giants? Or do we need to win both of the two games left (with Milwaukee and Philadelphia both losing one game each or both lose today with a Giants' win)?

Since we apparently lose all tie breakers, and I don’t think they are doing any “163”s this year, I believe this to be true.

And I think the Mutts are eliminated from WC contention as well. I think they can only get into the #2 slot in the East.

All 3. Both the Crew and the Phil’s are in the same position relative to us.

Mutts were eliminated today. The best we can do is 8th.

8) Mil (1 @ StL) +0.0
9) SF (1 vs SD) —
10) Phi (1 @ TB) -1.0

We don’t care about Philly. Their outcome is totally immaterial to us.

We need to win AND St Louis needs to lose. That’s it.

If you want to root for teams based on longest title droughts, it would go down like this:
1. Cleveland
t2. Milwaukee
t2. San Diego
4. Dodgers (no way!)
5. Oakland
6. Cincinnati
7. Minnesota
8. Toronto
9. Atlanta
10. Tampa
11. Miami
12. White Sox
13. Yankees (need to be lower)
14. Saint Louis
15. Cubs
16. Houston

I tend to root this way (I'm not one of those sickos who takes perverse pleasure over whole fan bases continuing to suffer through extended title droughts, unless my team is in the playoffs), with the exception of the Dodgers and Yankees. They always go to the bottom of my rankings. The Yankees because they have more than enough titles to last through a 100 year drought. I don't think I need to explain why the Dodgers drop to the bottom of my list. They are the exception to my rule about title droughts. No titles for the Dodgers! (and this team makes me nervous every year the past few years too.) So the bottom of my list would be be 14. Houston (yes, above the other two), & t16 Yankees & Dodgers (please let the WS be canceled if its between the two of them).
