we lost Scott Walker in an expansion draft (to Nashville). that sucked.

Robert Dirk, Gerald Diduck. After they left, it was a long, long time before we had any legitimately mean defensemen. Odd anecdote: Gerald Diduck stole Aldo Nova's wife, and when he came to Vancouver from NYI, she came with him. Aldo Nova wrote a suckt album about it.

to get really obscure I'd go with Evgeny Namestnikov.
43 career games over about 4 years, 9 points total. he was a small defenseman that tried to hit like he was Scott Stevens.
wouldn't always succeed, but I appreciated his enthusiasm.

When I saw the title of this thread, I immediately thought of Straka. I loved him. It is such a shame that the Pens went broke or Marty probably would have finished his career here. The Straka-Lang-Kovalev line was a thing of beauty, and easily one of the best second lines in the NHL at the time.

Add Straka to the list of players who left the Penguins and was never quite the same.

Yeah, those were good times. Straka was my favourite of the three.

Steve Chiasson. Loved his offense, although we did get Mike Vernon for him. And he didn't really disappear, he was killed in a drunk driving accident after leaving a Gary Robert's party.

For the Canucks in recent memory, and fairly obscure, I'll go with Anson Carter. Not a great hockey player (heck, not even an NHL hockey player for very long) but he fit in with the Sedins at a time when the Sedins needed some type of finish on that line.

For oldschool, has to be Harold Snepts. One of the meanest D-men in front of his net of all-time, very underrated while playing on the left coast back in the day, and a really nice guy off the ice.

Rod Brind'Amour. I know Primeau had that great run in the 04 playoffs and i still like the guy but Rod was one of my favorite players and was a consistent two way player year after year. I wouldnt have made the deal but im not the GM obviously.

For the Sharks,it would have to be the line of Ricci/Sundstrom/Thornton (not Jim). None of them were dynamic by themselves, but they were one of the (if not the) best 3rd lines in the NHL.
