As I am going to be an active follower and fan of the NHL this upcoming season I am looking for a team to follow. Also, I am going to purchase NHL '12 and play every single game of the season in a quest to win the Stanley Cup. As I haven't been much of a follower of hockey in the past just because I get focused on NFL and NBA I am trying to find a hockey team that I can become a fan of. Way back when I played NHL ESPN 2k5 I was the Edmonton Oilers, so im trying to pick between the Oilers, Penguins (as I am a Pirates fan, so mine as well stick within the city of Pitt) Buffalo and the Avalanche. I remember rooting for the Avs back in the late 90s. But that was probably because they were good. lol.

Everyone knows that the tiebreaker for picking a team to follow is dependent on how cute their goalie is. So try to keep that in mind.

Oilers and Avs will suck for the forseeable future.
If you become a Pens fan, you will be viewed as a bandwaggonner for eternity.
Buffalo is turning the corner, with a new owner that cares, and has deep, deep pockets.

of the four, Buffalo is the way to go.

Well, if you're a Pens fan, you'll have alot of hate towards you, if your an Oilers fan, you'll have some hate towards you, and if you're an Avs fan you won't get much hate at all unless Detroit fans are holding onto the 90s rivalry

Aren't the Ducks the logical choice?

I would say to "test drive" each of those teams by being a fan of one team for a month or so, then switching to a new team until you've been a fan of all four teams. Then, at the end of the season, pick the team that feels right to you.

Lol, yes Ducks are the logical choice, but I hate Anaheim and anything So Cal. The Oilers aren't that good, how would I generate hate for liking a team that placed last place last season? I won't be a Penguins fan because of the Bandwagon label. So Bufalo, Edmonton and Avs are my three choices. The "test drive" of teams is a good idea, but I feel like if I am going to be a fan of a team I go all in. Pick them at the start and stick with them. Oilers have any decent future? Concerns me they are last place this past year, hopefully that means they were young or setting themselves up for a good draft and or free agency.

You should go for a decent team that you'll be able to watch on national TV, but not one of the best teams because that is too easy.

extremely good point. As I am new to the tv deal. do they usually broadcast national televised games on Versus? or does VS usually do local games? Such as the NFL and CFB do. I'll get Oakland vs San Diego even though both teams are 2-10 rather then a Patriots-Steelers matchup that are playing for #1, just because i am on the west coast.

Versus and NBC are national, in the playoff Versus will typically have multiple games going and a local one will play
