It's pretty obvious to most what Dallas gains from this trade, but what do you see as a gain from the Steelers' side of it?

not having to give a massive contract to a man-baby?

i mean, it's still gonna suck for us as far as on-field production is concerned, but um, yeah. at least there's that?

They do not have to pay Pickens (gain) and do not have to deal with a head case (another gain). Metcalf becomes the go to in Pittsburgh.

I kind of see your point, but they didn't have to redo his contract this year. He will earn 3.7 million in the 2025 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2026, barring an extension with Dallas. Pittsburgh could have kept him this year, gotten the production that you've mentioned, then moved on. It's obvious that they had no intention of doing that, so the trade was logical.

Are these reasonable explanations? I think not, so here are better reasons for this trade.

Pittsburgh needs to get a QB and moving Pickens...

1. Makes them weaker and more likely to end this year in a more favorable drafting position.
2. Pickens became redundant with the acquisition of D.K.
3. Satisfied the buttoned-up, tight assed, conservative nature of Western Pensylvanians who didn't like his frustrations being displayed on the field.
4. Further strengthened their 2026 draft hand by adding picks, and this is where your charges of not wanting to pay him apply.

I think they figured it's probably better to just deal with this now, and not risk him becoming a major malcontent at some point in the next 12 months and his price dropping like a rock.

Pickens and a sixth for a third and a seventh is a great deal for Dallas.

If he doesnt prove his worth however, its a lot to pay for one year.

I believe it's going to work well for the offense. Lamb may go crazy, and i may even draft Dak as a 3rd stringer on my fantasy squad

Agreed, although Schottenheimer as head coach remains to be seen.

In any case, it’s a good thing GMAP loaded up on the secondary this offseason.
