Holy fucking logjam of no-name players!?

Anybody know anything about this kid Acho? Looks like he was a pretty good player before breaking his leg?

read he had 7 sacks and 4 forced fumbles in his first year, started 16 games his second year with only 4 sacks, then broke his leg last season.

gotta think that Fangio saw alot of him in Arizona.

Just have to wait and see with him. It sounds like he has potential if he's 100%.

potential to play as well as our first pick would have if Mariota drops to 7.

I mean, free agency is mostly no name guys moving around. Especially at this point. Bears signed a couple of names. This is the time where you're filling your roster.

It not the expecting the bears to fill up with players, I think the general consensus here is it would be nice if we didn't have to Google the signed players to learn who the hell they are.

Biggest name was McPhee, still a google hound.

I don't follow the AFC near as close as I do the NFC. For me personally, that accounts for some of the unfamiliarity. I felt similar to you at first, but after some time and research...I actually like what the front office is doing in FA. A lot for a little, with big upsides, i.e. most of the players acquired should be hitting their respective primes.

Can we say that our LB core will be extremely competitive this year in training camp?

I am not complaining about the no named players. Shows how deep the nfl really is and much better than getting dunked in grease to sign Jared Allen in panic mode. I just dont want that "diamond in the ruff" mentality for all these guys. Its really nice when a Vince Papale turn up, just kinda seems like we are starting with 4 of them. I just hope that if enough of these guys work out and Allen is gonna be a third down rusher on turf fields, that they bite the bullet and release him if they cant deal him. Really cant see a problem in trading allen, his salary is only 1 million, its what we get in return for the 11 million roster bonus that means it might be a second or third round pick. There is no baggage of a contract going with him like Marshall got.

I'm curious...not challenging, since I don't know, but curious. Why don't you think Allen gets sacks on grass? Just briefly looking through game logs, I see plenty of sacks on grass. I suppose I could go through and tally snap counts and sacks on either field type, but before going through that hassle, just wondering where you get the impression from?

Last year at least, it was pointed out during a broadcast when he played fast, well, played as expected, the game was on field turf. When you think about the sloppy track at Soldiers field it made sense. Pretty sure that was week 12 in Detroit. First time he showed up was week 10 in Minny, adrenaline game.

When he was in KC it was between the age of 22 and 25, much different Jared Allen.

Last year his best game was 2 sacks and 4 tackles in detroit.
Three weeks later they played in Chicago he ends up with one sack and 2 tackles.

Age catches up with all of us, the player they paid last year was that guy that had a sack or part of a sack in just about every game he played.

I don't know, his season high in combined tackles was one week Carolina (grass) at 7 and next week New York (FieldTurf) also 7. It's hard to see that much of a trend either way in the numbers. OK he got one more sack in Detroit but he also got one more sack at home against Minn than up there. Those numbers aren't really different or statistically large enough to tell us very much.

While I generally don't buy too much into the "grass slows some teams down more than others" theory, since it obviously affects both sides, you may have a point here with a pass rusher who relies/relied so much on speed. Hard to say, I'm just not sure how obvious or dramatic the effect actually is.

I think JA has relied on "effort" more than anything else. Dude just has a high-motor, and is relentless. Or at least was.

Yeah, Carolina grass is alot neater than soldier field sod though, also look at the Tackle lined up against him. Wasnt he going against some sub at carolina? Dont remember. Just something that stuck with me thats all, always thought it was a panic signing after losing Peppers, Emery thought he was putting something over with this stupid roster bonus, just left a bad taste I guess, well, plus the fact I couldnt stand the guy in Minnesota and the cheap shot on Louis.

but we are not even talking about that Allen anymore. We are talking about a guy they expect to stand up and cover backs and tight ends. Just worries me with a guy that already lost a step. Peppers made the transition in green bay, but when it was all said and done in the playoffs he was back to having his hand down on the line. Hopefully it opens up the opportunity to have a true defense that can easily shift from 3-4 to 4-3 and back depending on the situation.
