really? you're going to pick a TE?? And we already have two good TE's on our team...

Yes. Stanford uses 3 TE sets all the time. 49ers use them some, but not a lot this year as well. The reason they are not being used as much is because the 3rd TE is not that good. Also, the TEs currently on the niners are not in the mold for this offense.

Look at Stanford's TEs' heights. Two are 6'6" just like Rob, and the other is 6'8".

Currently the niners TEs' heights are Davis 6'3", Walker 6'0", and Peelle who is the tallest at 6'4".

In this offensive system the TEs are supposed to be the biggest weapons and for the most part down the middle of the field going after jump balls near the endzone or getting behind the defense.

This is one of the reasons I want the niners to go after Coby Fleener in the second round this year. He is the best TE in the draft and he knows the system. If I can't get him due to it being a current NFL player I would go with the one who has the same skill set as him.

As for Brady throwing him the ball, it really doesn't matter who throws it to him. I live in New England and watch all their games. Most of his TDs he is covered and it is just a jump ball that he wins with his length or with his body positioning like boxing out a rebound. Heck, even me with a torn up shoulder, can lob him a pass that he can catch over shorter defensive players.

this logic is ok but the premise is add any non-QB. ANY meaning the most impact you can get? so while the above is ok on its own parameters, it doesn't seem to address the premise?

this will help the offense in TE sets, but it doesn't give maximum impact to the team.

OK let me explain why I feel that it is the best way for the niners to go.

Niners defense is great, they lead the league in points allowed. While they are not the best in the pass they are certainly good enough to win against high passing teams. Eagles and Giants were proof of that.

WR is a need, but Edwards, Ginn, and Crabtree are good WRs. While having a speedy slot receiver like a Welker or a tall CJ would be nice, They do not fit the mold of the niners. Both do not block down the field. CJ and Edwards would fill the same role.

I almost said an Oline, but they are playing great right now. Giving Smith time to throw and opening up lanes for running.

I chose TE cause it would give us that guy who can help Smith the most get points by blocking and by being a security blanket. With him and Davis, the TEs would require LBers to cover them and one will almost always be open. It would mean controlling the center of the field. The team who controls the center of the field controls the game. That is something Bill Walsh preached and it still holds true today.
