Smith and Wesson 500 Magnum Revolver. $2.50 bullets This big magnum with an 8 3/8" barrel and ported compensator has little if any more recoil than my S&W Model 29 .44 magnum. The big gun is built for the rounds it shoots and consequently controllable for anyone of average strength. What may be a bit challenging for people with any significant physical limitations is the weight of the gun which is 72.5 oz empty. But it's the weight that tames the recoil so....catch 22. Add the weight of the scope and ammo on the gun and you've got a significant, nearly 6 pound chunk of metal in your hands.

Well considering you wouldn't shoot anything but a Buffalo with that gun, lol. That would fit great in my day pack but it's hard to get out to shoot a bear while Mountain biking..Sweet fucking gun though.

Actually haven't shot any animals with it. But it puts one hell of a hole in an engine block.

I bet,

I use a Police issue 38 when I'm hiking. I haven't come across an angry bear yet and have always been worried if it will stop it or piss it off, hopefully I never have to find out, lol.. I have thought about getting a bigger hand gun but it seems such a waste to only use it for target practice, although I usually have a yard full of Deer. Hmmm..

A 38 EHHH,,,all you're going to do is piss a bear off,,,,,,it is heavier but you would be much safer carrying a 12ga pump loaded with slugs

Heh Heh, that would put some heat on an ol bears ass! I almost bought that 500 but I've already had a 686 .357 SS S&W I bought in '82 and a S&W 10mm but opted for this model 1911 instead about 4 years ago.
