To start.... but with his arm slot and hand speed he has great potential for a good breaking pitch. His problem was location of his fastball. You can't get to your dirty stuff if you can't throw strike 1. Gotta pitch off your fastball. He was never able to repeat his mechanics enough to paint fastballs

The difference is between the ears.

You may be right.

But lets do keep in mind that Cotts is 34 and Kirkman is 27. There's still time for Kirk to put it together. Besides, it never hurts to have a hard thrower in AAA and he now knows that no team in baseball wants him on their ML roster. Maybe the shock value is worth something.
