Now 5-2 . Gomez in to relieve. Ortiz doubles to center and it's 6-2. in the 7th. Sloppy play after a single and its 8-2. Enough said about this contest.

Howard should not be allowed to bat with the game on the line. Bring in Blanco or frenchy to pinch hit.
Tying run at the plate!

I am disgusted with Mackinon. Letting Howard hit against a lefty was an automatic out. Looks like tanking
to me. Phils want the top draft pick.

Like the dentist said as he was pressing the last filling in, "it's almost over". It will be interesting to see if this off season they sign any more Harang/Williams type guys o r not. They might have enough young guys chlose enough that they could just start the year with a young rotation.

You must have read the story. MacKanin promised Howard he would platoon him with Ruf but never pinch hit for him against a lefty. Not winning baseball which is what fans want to see. And the players who are busting their asses want also. This is one of the things fans hate about the Phillies. So you pinch hit for a $20 mil .137 hitter. That's a manager's job. But the embarrassment is too great for them and losing is preferred. Morons!

The Red Sox wanted to win the game, so they brought in a lefty to face Howard. Mackinan wanted to lose the game so he left Howard bat. The Phillies are leaning towards hiring Mackinan next year and that is scary.
He is almost half as dumb as Amaro. You are right jvett77, there are some young guys busting there butts
to do a good job. They also are playing to win. This crap is a travesty and an insult to the fans. I was hoping that the insanity would be over by now. If anybody else made the last out I would be okay with it as long as we played
the percentages. I hope the coaches give Howard his milk before they tuck him in tonight!

Rackin' up the losses for the overall number one pick!

Yep. But Atlanta may want it more; they just lost their last 10. Even if they pinch hit for Howard, chances are the Phils would still lose the game. But it's the whole crummy idea of not putting the best guy at the plate. This respect crap is ridiculous. I bet even _Phillies_ agrees with this.

I just saw the article where Mack promised Howard that he would not pinch. hit for him. Sounds like one
of Amaros contract clauses where the advantage goes to the player. Our manager is weak! The inmates are
running the asylum!

I agree. If he can't hit a left handed starter how can you expect him to do anything against a reliever whose specialty is getting left handed hitters out? He shouldn't be promising any players anything about how he does his job

Today's game matches 23 year old, 6'4" rookie RHP Alec Asher, 0-1, 6.35, vs lefty Wade Miley, 28, 10-10, 4.57. Asher lost to SD in last outing, giving up 4 ER in 5 2/3 innings. Asher showed good control in the minors for Texas, 3.53, 420 K, 123 BB in 4 years. Score some runs today phildos!

Asher looks good today after 3 innings. 2 hits, no runs, and 50 pitches.

Sox put a few hits together and take a 1-0 lead in the 4th. Bases loaded for Bradley. Asher headed for implosion.

It's good to see Bradley hitting in the majors like he has been recently. He always had a great eye at the plate but until recently every time they called him up he struggled. Then he just made a slight adjustment a few weeks ago and now he's hitting the cover off the ball. The reason I mention it is the Phillies finally have some guys like that (high OBP potential) in their system in JP Crawford, Roman Quinn and even Darnell Sweeney. This offense has potential in the near future.
