This year I'm altering my draft strategy. I am thinking of taking Manning after ap, McCoy, forte, and Charles are off the board. Then targeting ball in the second and the best wr/rb available in the third. Then drafting ray rice a round early, attempting to get Michael Floyd and Patterson as 2nd and 3rd Wrs. I never take QBs early, but I think Peyton is going to be the best QB again this year and might actually be worth a 1st this year. I did a mock draft and got the following (I left early so I didn't draft a full team.)

QB- Peyton
RB- ball, Stacy, rice, piere Thomas
Wr- white, Patterson, sanders
TE- Rudolph

Granted that's not a completed team, but I think that's a bonafide playoff team. I like rice and white to rebound. I think sanders, ball, and Patterson can bust out. I also think Peyton will have weeks where he single handedly wins me a match up. My Wrs are pretty weak though. Opinions on this strategy? If I were able to get that team, I'd be very happy with my results.

it sounds like a good theory, but the minute one of your guys get taken, your whole strategy for multiple rounds is blown......and if u still try to follow it well, i think your gonna not like your team

I don't know, there are always fall backs like Andre Ellington and rashad Jennings. I think I might try it in one of my leagues. I just think there will be a big drop off between the top 4 backs and the rest. I'd rather get a player that is going to be at the top of his position and then everyone else have a severe disadvantage at that position.

I think every person who drafts Peyton Manning first will be disappointed.

I disagree. You can still get a good team by taking Manning first. I drafted him first in the suicide league and I think my team is gonna compete.

Taking him 1st isn't my favorite strategy but I get it. The guy finished what 50 points better than any other quarterback last year and looks to have similar weapons with maybe a better OL in front of him.

I took him first in the suicide too. That's because with no transactions, he's a good bet to be steady eddie....and it was early.

I just worry about the injury factor with Manning, I can't see him throwing 50+ TD's again either. I have never been a fan of taking a QB with my first pick.

Honestly if you are drafting with anybody on this message board there's no way you get Ball in the 2nd round or Stacy in the 3rd round.

Peyton is mr regular season. If he stays healthy and the offense around him stays reasonably healthy he will be the best fantasy QB. The man is probably the best regular season QB ever.

I think your a little too specific one who your targeting. But does seem like a decent plan if it works. I just have my doubts that it'll work out that way

I think the main reason I'm staying away from Manning is because his opponents this year compared to last year will slow him down. I don't see him nearing his level of output from last year, and I think that because of his season last year he will still be taken before he should be.

Also, the Denver defense should be better this year, and I'm not sure he will have the same need for touchdowns and extra pass attempts late in games.

But mostly I just don't see him living up to expectations based on a record setting year last year against weaker defenses than he will face this year. I think he'll have a great year, but I'm not sure he's going to be worth a first round pick.

That was my first thought....................

I agree. It just seems like every mock I do Stacy falls much further than people expect. I think it's an interesting trend. Do outsiders think Stacy is crap or something?

A lot of people are still fixated on those early reports that had the rookie possibly stealing his job. Thus far it hasn't looked like that's at all possible.

I've toyed with the strategy of targeting specific players over the years and it's never worked out well. I've been able to abandon it mid-draft and end up with an ok team but never a great one. Just the nature of the draft process(snakes at least) makes it necessary to be constantly altering your thinking.

Yeah, I'm a little specific in this strategy. However, the most important specific players I am targeting in this draft strategy is ray rice and Montee ball. In this draft I think ball will fall to the third round if I don't pick him in the second. I think ray rice will be easily attainable a round early as well. With this strategy I'm mostly worried about Wrs.
