Peyton Manning for Jimmy Graham??

10 team league, my currebt QB is Jay Cutker AND I have Rob Gronkowski as my other TE to use as a flex. If I trade Graham for Manning I would have a top tier QB but I dont know if the difference between Manning and Cutler this year is going to be enough to have to use Joique Bell or Steven Jackson as my flex. Thoughts??

I get thinking that Cutler could be in for a huge year. Seems to me that that is still far riskier than betting that Manning puts up monster numbers again.

Oh I have 0 doubt Manning puts up better numbers. Im just wondering if the points I gain there outweigh the points I lose using Gronk as a flex instead of Steven Jackson or Joique Bell AND the points I lose at TE by trading Graham.

No. Don't make that trade. If you trade one of your TE, make sure it's for an elite RB/WR. Cutler will be fine.

Manning may not break his own records from last season, but he'll still be better than Cutler. I have reservations about Cutler. I want him to succeed, but history is not on his side. Manning is a much safer option.

Without knowing your scoring sytem it's impossible to comment. There are some leagues (I am in one) where Manning and Brees are early first round picks. So I don't subscribe to the don't take a QB early thought pattern that many seem to all the time. But, for most leagues Graham is a much better value than Manning and you obviously felt this when you drafted him. I don't like your other two backs/flex options, so assuming you are in a fairly normal scoring sytem I'd probably stay with what you have. If you had a better option there I may think about it. Plus, if Gronk isn't "ready enough" for you to play him week one you can just hold off. If you make the trade you must play him.

That being said, Cutler doesn't exactly have a desireable early schedule.

PPR league. I am leanong towards not making the trade but my issue is that the only place I really need upgrade at is RB and there just really arent that many guys that are STUDS and nobody is trading them anyway. Just trying to find out a way to squeeze a few more points out.

Eh I am still thinking Im OK there. My WR's are good and I really didnt have anyone left at RB that was worth using a first rounder on. I guess we are going to find out though. LOL.

I'd try to get a little more out of the deal, but I'd do it. Mix in a small RB upgrade for example.

I wouldn't do that trade mainly because then you are completely reliant on Gronk at tight end and that means if he doesn't stay healthy you are in trouble. I would counter and offer Gronk and maybe another piece for Manning instead and keep Graham.

Trade Gronk for a solid WR2, keep Graham, no reason to have two TE's like that, even if you can use them as a FLEX. The WR2 will score the same amount of points per week as Gronk anyway and will probably be healthier.

I wouldn't likely do it myself because I'd rather fill my starters first and then fill the flex spot with someone who dropped or outplays his draft spot from my bench, but with a flex play why not if the value is there? Certainly eitehr can be a trade chip all year and assuming since he already had Graham that he sat a while before taking Gronk and made sure he was comparable or better than the other players on the board I don't see why it is a poor move. As small as it is, you do weaken the rest of the league's TEs by one and if done in the right spot you may force others to take a TE a little earlier than they wanted that allows some other guys to drop. I don't think there is ever a black and white rule about what you should and shouldn't do, especially with a flex play and trades.

1. I see your TE "advantage" and raise you a RB or WR advantage.
2. Someone drafting Gronk doesn't change anything. He goes where he goes, and those who weren't taking him, aren't forced into anything.

BTW, pro-rated over a full season, Cutler would have 330 FF pts (at 6-pts per passing TD) under Trestman. That's about where I'd peg him this year - but he's missed a Gronk-like 13 games in the past four years.

Peyton had 376 in 2012 and 523 last year - I think 420 is a reasonable guess. So that's about 90 pts difference (and except for that one lost year Peyton's hasn't missed a start in his career).

Joique got 216 in PPR last year while Graham got 303 - also about 90.

But I think Joique will do a little better this year and Graham a shade worse. So I'd lean toward Manning and Joique over Cutler and Graham, especially if you can get a sweetener.

(BTW, only 10 WRs had more points-per-game than Gronk last year in PPR. And if you take out the game where he was knocked out, only two did.)

so you quote the "as small as it is" part of my post??? You just pushed all the TEs back one, so you absolutely do change things. A backup TE just became a starter and the guy who was torn between a couple of TEs and may have waited for his next pick now has to grab one if he wants one of them.

After the big three we have, in no particular order, Vernon, Cameron, Pitta, Reed, Witten, Ertz, Rudolph, Heath, Lewis, Bennett, Clay, Allen, Gates/Green, and then some unknown rookie love for Kelce, Ebron, Rodgers, Amaro, ASJ.

Sure, Vernon is ahead of them all, the next few on the list are perceived to be better than the rest, but I'm not "panicking" because someone took Gronk in round 3.

First off, your ranking and the rest of your leagues rankings aren't the same unless you just both go by the same magazines...

On your list. I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. Are you trying to say the first few on your list (Vernon, Cameron, Pitt, Reed and Witten) are basically comparable to guys like Clay, Allen and Green? If so, let me know and I'll stop now...
