I know it's distasteful, but their draft is protected if it's in the top five which would mean the Lakers could start with Randle - Davis - First Round Draft Pick - Kobe and Nick Young. Perhaps re-sign Boozer and Lin and with Jordan Hill, they would be on their way to rebuilding and setting the table for a top free agent in 2016. My argument is they aren't going any where this season any way so why not make the most of it

Very conflicted. I think its best to keep the asset. I also see it do us no good to get the 9th or 10th seed in the west. I dunno. If we suck, let us suck. But dont give up. I wont fucking watch that bullshit!

The Lakers are playing decently tonight even though they are losing. It's still anyone's game and I can live with that(not that I have a choice) as long as they are hustling and making an effort. How come Howard the Coward isn't playing

The players aren't going tank. They are starting to play better ball with Young back as well as just more experience playing together. Plus they've had a really difficult schedule to start the season. Ideally though, for accelerating the rebuild, getting that top-5 pick would be great.

They kinda are in a way. Most people seem to think tanking is players actually not playing hard or taking plays off, etc but tanking is done by management. Obviously, the clear example of this is Philly. Their players try, but that team is a dumpster fire because management wants them to be bad so they make no effort to sign players of actual value.

LA hasn't flat out gone tanking, but they've at least set themselves up to keep the draft pick if the option is available. Because they could have signed B-level FAs this year after the Melo pursuit and still had cap space for 2016. A couple of those players and its a lot more reasonable for the Lakers to make the playoffs. But instead, once Melo said no, they immediately signed lower tier guys and filled up the cap space with Lin (and a draft pick). The roster they assembled would be a challenge to be playoff worthy or even .500 but I think that's what they had in mind. They keep cap space clean for 2015 (not much out there imo) and 2016 (the big market) all while keeping a roster they can evaluate. If the team is doing decent, they can say "great. We're doing ok and got space to improve" but if it stinks in February they can say "Hey Bryon, why not play Kobe just 20 minutes tonight. Minny is catching us for the 5th lottery slot".

Long story short, they've given themselves flexibility to do it if needed.
