It's not that he should be on the top 6, but he has proven that he can play there... if nec.. injuries or what not... which also adds value

That's kind of what I was getting at. Like Dacks, I much prefer him in a third line role, which he should be this year if TK moves to the top 6 (and I anticipate he will if he's brought back) or is not back with the team. Honestly, though, I can now see TK not coming back, especially if the organization deems Tangradi ready for top 6 minutes.

The reason this is a good deal is because Dupuis is versatile. He can play in any situation.

this is good.. some of your fellows think he's a little more valuable then he is i think

He's valuable because of his versatility. Dupuis is a large piece of what makes the Penguin penalty kill so good. He has the ability to play top six winger minutes, even if that isn't his forte. Duper's best role, IMO, is on the third or fourth line because he possesses great defensive skills as a forward.

He can play pretty much any situation that is given to him and he does them all well. Making that 1.5 million per season makes that quite a bargain.

1.5 is a bargain, because he'd be getting paid a lot more on the market. At least 1 mil more.

His value is how versatile he is. Honestly I don't want him in a top 6 role all the time but he has the speed and hard shot to play the role when needed. Also a very smart hockey player, seems to be in position most of the time too bad he doesn't have great hands to finish.

I'd be very happy if he STOPPED with the stupid slap shot coming down the wing. Goalies expect it now PAS-CAL

dont get me wrong, i think its a good signing.. 1.5 is about right for him i think.. just some of the initial posts in here made me feel he was a little overrated.. then again, you guys are probably right about what he'd get on the open market..

It's gonna be scary the numbers some FA are gonna get this year.

Without a doubt this is the bad part with having a cap floor. Some teams are going to overpay big time for some marginal talent.

Yeah, I'm a little worried as to what this will do to the market in future years. The scary part? Next years FA crop is WORSE.

I'm sure it may have sounded like he was overrated. The fact that he was brought back to the club making more or less the same amount of money he was from his previous contract is why we maybe propped up Dupuis more than he deserves LoL

My favorite parts about his game is Duper's durability and versatility. In the three full seasons he's been a part of the Penguins, Dupuis has never skated less than 71 games, the past two seasons he has skated in 81 regular season games. All the while he's blocking about 50 shots a year, and laying out about 90 to 100 hits a season. That's durability.

oh no.. dont tell me JvR is going to be the high-valued RFA..

coburn and carle are FA too..

i feel like its bad for the flyers to have a bunch of FA when the crop sucks..

He doesn't fit there for long periods of time because, as someone else pointed out in this thread, he doesn't have the hands to be a great finisher. I don't disagree with that.

Yes it will be interesting. The Penguins have their two top 6 wingers up next year with Neal (RFA) and Kunitz. Scary to think one won't be back and maybe both.

Neal being an RFA is good. Depending on his season this year arbitration is an option.
