Cowen's been the big surprise; he probably deserves some consideration for a rookie of the year nomination. Defensive guys never seem to be considered for the Calder though. :nono:

It's like that in every sport, if you ain't flashy you ain't worth it. Not fair, but those are the guys that make the most noise. Can't say that I know a lot about RoY this year though, don't even know who is in play outside of RNH.

Just got back from the game.

I guess if the Pens are going to lose, might as well see some goals, right?

Basically, the story of the game: Pens defense sucked. It probably looked bad on TV, but it looked even worse from the upper bowl. Just positionally lazy and watching the puck on at least three of their goals.

I was excited when the Pens tied it up, but then they let off the gas pedal. Johnson wasn't very good either.

Oh well. At least I get free pizza and Sully had 3 points for my fantasy team...

The one time a controversial Kunitz goal doesn't get called back and I am playing the guy with the Koon on his team.

Oh and in case anyone cared, I was 3-1 tonight on the bets! I "bet" (my co-worker did at my suggestion) every game except this one. Missed the Devs winning. My boy is up another $200 though!

Glad to see Cowen has adjusted to the NHL game very quickly. You could see the talent his entire tenure in Spokane, the only thing that ever held him back was his knee injury in 2009. The players in the WHL couldn't do a damn thing when he was on the ice last year. He also increased his offensive output putting up 18 goals and 30 assists. Looks like he's starting to be better offensively with Ottawa as well. Kid's only 20 and has VERY bright future.

I also saw he only got 28 mins of ice time. What a slacker! :p (It wasn't unusual last year for Cowen to get over 30 mins of ice time for the Chiefs).

That's what surprised me. I watched him a bit in junior last year and he was dominant. Ditto for the AHL playoff games he played. He just calmly takes on whatever the team and coaches need from him.

The fact that he's been able to adjust so quickly to the pace of the NHL game bodes well for a very bright future.
