I think that just means he's healing well...regardless of when he returns, the first 3 or 4 games are like the beginning of the season for him again. He's got to get back into game shape, and up to game speed again. I'd love to see the old Sid (the way he was playing, I can't believe there's a 'better' Sid), but I just want to see him back, healthy, and leading again.

It's pretty tough to say that by just watching him in non contact drills. Time will tell and we will see when the bullets fly for real. I'm sure the Pens would be pleased getting the same guy back that was hurt a while back.

If the same guy is back for the playoffs, I like our chances. But I just dont see it to be honest.

First off i want to admit i don't understand the whole complexity of the salary cap, so i'm looking for some help here if possible.

Is it possible Sid is still out because if he comes back (and his daily salary counts against the cap again), could the Pens face a Calgary Flames situation? Having to dress less than 18 skaters.

CapGeek.com :: It's a numbers game :: Daily NHL Salary Cap Tracker

Sid makes roughly 47k a day with 16 days left in the season, roughly 750k for the rest of the season.

They have around 6 million in space left, and spend 371k daily. Works out to 16 days left, but if sid goes off of LTIR they cant dress 18 skaters and 2 goalies i think.

Am i way off base here?

I confused myself here lol...

In general we have a glut of players up right now, mostly because of injuries with some guys still not off of LTIR. I think if Sid were to come back a player or two would have to be sent down just beause of the sheer numbers we have up. But, I think that when Sid is ready everything will be done to ensure that he has a spot in the lineup. I don't think the salary cap would be keeping him out.

I just remembered the mess Calgary got into with LTIR last season and wondered if it was possible with the Pens. Sending a Conner etc.. down wouldn't save much money though. But like i said i don't even pretend to understand the LTIR.

I just am anxious for Crosby to come back soon and analyzing shit too much...:D
