Ovechkin tonight reminded me of Crosby of two or three years ago - lots of set-ups, but his linemates just couldn't finish. (I do have higher expectations of Backstrom and Semin than Kunitz and Dupuis, though.)

What's Semin's deal? He was set up a few times and didn't even get off a good shot. I mean, he's a pretty one dimensional player, so if you take away his snipe finishing, what's left?

Also, a reason I love Sid. He has an open net with :15, but because there were Caps in the zone, he just rags it. Good move buddy. That how you win games, not scoring races.

When you score the EN, the game is over. Never seen a game where OV missed a shot and the other team tied it up. Not one.

Alzner/Carlson owned the Crosby line tonight as usual. He had 2 giveaways, 0 takeaways, and was a -1. He's better than OV now. But OV was better tonight.

Alright. I'm starting to get annoyed know so I'm gonna say congrats and bid you all a fine evening.

Also, we get a guy coming back and MP85 still doesn't have a spot, Eloco...

I know. What can you do. I think he gives the team more of a spark than Eakin and he's our best forechecker in the offensive zone. Hope he gets his chance. I'll still proudly be the only guy at Verizon wearing his jersey. :)

I mean, I wasn't pulling a "SID IS SO MUCCCCH BETTERZ" thing, just stating that it was a good move. I mean, he missed the EN from the blueline on a slap, pursued the puck, had an off chance at going for it, but chose the better option of ragging the puck. Sorry if it ticked ya off. :/ I'd agree that OV had the better game, heck I don't expect Super Sid every night. That's insane.

I've been trying to figure out his deal for however many years he's been here.

But I know the answer! Stick handling that turns into a turnover, stick penalties, and diving penalties. His rep is really bad though and gets some penalties because he's alex Semin

Jeez, a little sensitive. I think the point is it's better to kill time 200 feet from your own net than take a low-percentage shot at the empty net. Obviously if you think you can score and end the game, you should.

Apparently there's a semi-riot on the Smithsonian steps now...*sigh* Seriously guys? What are we LSU/WVU? Something about a guy punching a girl...never cool. No matter how big of a witch she is.

3 stars:
1. Martin
2. Chimera
3. Ovechkin

Trying to beef up someones confidence? Hah. I suppose no one really stood out that much tonight. Team win.

I came into this thread to comment about this. Not that I really give a shit about the three stars, but this was the weirdest I've seen in awhile. Paul Martin had a great game, yes. And OV, I thought, played great. But no Kunitz in there? He had the GWG on a pretty hard-working play.

Anyway, it was a good game. Sort of a weird one between these two clubs. Sometimes the momentum shifts seemed to come out of nowhere for both teams. I expected Sid and OV to have monster games, but in the end it was other guys that were making more of the contributions offensively.

I really liked Depres out there. I thought he was hesitant and got out-muscled a bit early, but seemed to adjust as the game went on. I obviously wish Letang and Michalek speedy recoveries, but I hope I get to see more of Depres in their absence instead of Picard.

I was a little nervous about this game because I knew the Caps would be wanting a win so much with the new coach. And I don't think the Caps really played bad at all. Couldn't finish at times, but we've had that problem. They still worked hard. Really happy to get the win in this one given the circumstances. And I don't really care what the Caps' record is in their last ten; they are still a formidable opponent given the talent on that roster.

Cheers to the next game Caps' fans. Hope both our D's are healthy.

PS. I was rooting for the Hurricanes tonight since they also have a new coach for whom they are now looking for their first win. No dice. I hope it's a good game Saturday. Going down to Raleigh for it, so I need a win!

The Canes seem to play their best hockey when the Pens come to town. It's eerie.

Wait, I thought Stanislav Galiev was

Sea Dogs reps to you both!

Galiev has missed almost the whole season with a wrist inury. Can't wait to get him back. He looked awesome in the few games he played before his injury.

Edit - Must spread rep Ritari but it's the thought that counts. :D

Lol, it's all good. I knew he was out with a wrist injury, but I wasn't sure if he had came back yet or not. Do you know when he is expected to return?

Oooo. Questionable hit by Carly. In his favor, he didn't drive through him. It might warrant a review and a game or two on the shelf though.

I'm not going to feel bad for the target though.

Definitely not until after the World Juniors which sucks because he was really looking forward to probably playing for Team Russia this year. I'm hoping it's sometime in January but I'm hearing it may not be until sometime in February.

Yeah, this was all the talk on tweeter last night...people were annoyingly up in arms. I do think it deserves a review. I missed it because it was so late in the game, I was too busy watching the puck. I wouldn't be shocked if there's a game involved.

I don't think Carlson could avoid contact on that play; Cooke basically turns right into him at the last second. The worst you could say is once contact was unavoidable, Carlson got his shoulder up pretty high.

But based on Shanahan's Malone decision, he seems pretty forgiving on headshots when the play involved late movement on the part of the recipient. He punishes cases where the offender had plenty of time to avoid hitting the head and didn't make the effort. So I'm not surprised this didn't get punished, regardless of who got hit.
