Bennett was impressive. That said, I have a feeling that for his own sake he'll be sent down to WBS to develop more. I think he's been so impressive that they don't want to rush him. That's my guess. Also: Sutter. SUTTER. Man was he great.

Bennett was sent back to WBS today, but Shero made it seem waiver related. Pens have a lot of borderline guys that have to go through waivers, so they're obviously taking up roster spots.

The White team appeared to be pretty stacked compared to the Black team. Or at least they were top heavy. Malkin and Crosby on the same team just doesn't seem to be fair for a scrimmage, not to mention Letang. But the Black team did alright.

What's going on with Simon Despres? Is he expected to make the team this year?

They were...very much so. Black team had the third line, which produced 3 goals. They also had MAF and 4 of the top 6 on D. Sutter "won" the game for his side. Malkin/Sid were fairly quiet. Malkin's goal was on the fake 5 on 3.

So far Despres is still on the team. They made their cut to 23 players today, and he is the 8th defenseman on the roster.

Despres is the only defenseman on the team that can be sent down without having to go through waivers, so I still have my doubts he will remain here very long. Unless he plays well in the opportunity he's given. We'll see. I hope he sticks.

Did Joe Morrow make the cut, or is he headed to WBS?

He did not make the cut, Dash. In fact, leading up to 'training camp', it seemed like he was all ready pretty much ruled out of making the NHL right out of camp.

Thanks for the update. Hey, a little seasoning in the minors isn't a bad thing, it's quite rare these days for defensemen to make the big club straight out of junior.

Yeah, some extra time in the AHL isn't a bad thing for Morrow. He has struggled this season, from what I've read. So his demotion wasn't a surprise. Despres is a surprise to me, though. He hasn't exactly sparkled in the minors this year. And there have been rumblings about a lack of work ethic. Who knows. Maybe Bylsma wants him close by so he can give him a kick in the behind

Can I ask if Crosby whined and Malkin looked aloof???

I mean this isn't just preseason for the players.

No whining from what I heard. Maybe he was taking it easy on the refs, I heard they were local guys

Malkin was in mid-season form, for obvious reasons. He had a great powerplay goal from the top of the slot.

Biggest story of the nite was Sutter. He set up two, and scored a third one. All the while playing great defense.

BTW, I am jacked to have the afternoon slot leading into the Super Bowl again. That was awesome last time, blizzard be damned.

Same here! I'm thrilled. My buddy has connections in DC that got us tickets to last years 1-0 caps shutout at the hands of your former, and our current goaltender :)

He is trying to score those same tickets again to that game. :suds:

OH, so the refs were local guys!

Figures, being the Pens and all.....NHL loves you guys.... ;)

They love us because they have hitched their money wagon to our backs.

As we all are well aware of after this latest debacle, greed is Gary's first word in his business plan.

I am pretty happy about all the national broadcasts though. That means I don't have to listen to Steiggy! I can put up with Pierre if Doc is calling the game.

Bummed about Bennett. Drafted him in my FHL. Beau and my Nephew in Torrance were teammates while playing for the LA Jr. Kings, and also very good friends. Yeah, Sutter looked hungry! Can't wait to see my 2nd favorite team play again! Good luck Pens!

By the looks of it, we don't have long to wait on Bennett. He didn't look out of place last night, from what I saw of him.

Sutter did look great. It won't be easy replacing Staal, but Sutter's attitude will fit right in here. I can't wait to see how he does this season.

I know Sutter was brought in for a defensive role, but honestly he may put up the same numbers on offense as Staal. That line was dynamic.
